Mornin',

Just ordered my first barrel of farm diesel since 1982. You think that wasn't a shocker? Wow!

Glad I was settin' down when I made that call. :>(

Afternoon Allan, Thought I woud jump in on this one. We bought a load about a month ago delivered to our tank. It was $1.83 if memory servs me so the $1.92 they quoted you sound about right since fuel has jumped again since then.
Better put a lock on the tank! to prevent it from slipping away while you arn't around.
OBTW.... Will You and the Mrs. be relocating "The Haciesenda" to the Farm? or stay there where you are now, If so how far from the House to the Farm. Anyway I was just wondering! Later,
John A.

Hi John,

Wife wants to move out there yesterday. I'm saying un-huh and hoping her thinking will straighten out with time.

The house is just not livable the way it is. We've either got to remodel it or move another one in. Don't know just yet how this is all gonna play out and I'm just playing it by ear right now. :>)

Fuel prices may be higher than in 1982, but by the quote below taken from a USDA report, you will be saving 41% in energy use by your modern farming methods! Always trust the goverment to put a positive spin on your life.

"Energy use grew during the 1960s and 1970s, peaking at 2.2 quadrillion BTUs in 1978. High energy prices from the early 1970s and through 1982 led farmers to become more energy efficient... Many adopted conservation tillage
practices, shifted to larger machines, and adopted energy-saving methods of crop drying and irrigation. As a result, farmers reduced direct energy use by 41 percent from 1978 to
1998, while productivity grew sharply."

Howdy Allan!

No, no one'll try and talk you out of plowing.... Or at least no one on here. The fuel gauge on your tractor, combined with the fuel bill from your supplier MIGHT convince you otherwise, but the rest of us won't talk you out of it....

No repeat after me..... "This is why all my friends started no-tilling everything...."

Morning Allen; How much per gal.is it up there?Last invoice I got for my tank was $1.62\gal. for off road diesel.I'm here in the deep south just outside of Baton Rouge.Saw your pictures this am.,that tractor of yours reminds me of a 1066 Hi-Clear I used during cane grinding season one year.Man that tractor could pull! But thats another story for another time.Good Luck with your Farm.Looks like a great place. Hi Kenny,

They claim it is $1.92 delvered. The delivery is the hard part 'cause the place is so far out in the boonies that they have to switch over to pack mules when the roads end. :>)

They also asked me, "Whatever possessed you to get back into the farming game?" Guess I couldn't really come up with an approiate answer for him off the top of my head.

Gotta think about that one. :>(

Hey Ken in reply to 3010 Ken, 06-27-2005 06:24:24
What kind of work do those Hi Clears do? I'm a flat-land Ia boy and don't know much about those old girls. Do they Plow, cultivate? Drawbar or PTO work? If I work on one where would problem spots be?

Sorry about pulling away from your post Allen Just got hosed on a tanker myself.

Morning Sloroll; All of the above.Seen "em" plow, build rows, cultivate, cut water drains [drainage ditches running diagonal to rows],mow, spray. What I did during grinding was pull two tandem axle trailers loaded with cane from the field to the loading pad to be off loaded by the trans-loader then back to the field again. And let me say, what I saw those 1066's do was pull, I mean pull.If I ever saw one for sale that I could afford to buy, well,it would have a place in my shed.Running a green and a red....may look like christmas. Not familiar enough to tell of any trouble spots.Have a good one. Kenny

Our friends went no till, they were draining the 500 L farm tank daily running a TW-25 and another smaller tractor.

They sold their res-till and a bunch of plows. The fuel bill is way down this year and they think they can get rid of one of the big tractors.
