I noticed your handwork with your 966 in 3rd gear and decided to see what you had. Went to tractor data and they indicated that the engine hp was 91 hp but the pto was 100.

Well, does that red stuff contain some sort of magic? Grin

Guess somebody got things turned around.

My 4230 Deere is 404 cu in and 100 pto rated so I guess we are about the same there. Good size tractor. Not too big nor small. Guess if I was going to moldboard, I could run a 4 bottom ok.

Later,

Mark

Mark,

Those "sales figures" are so darned misleading. If measured down at the drawbar, a 966 will only come in at around 80 horse or so.

PTO horsepower only counts when running a darned chopper 'er somptin'. :>)

My round baler counts them when nearing 6' diameter. Grin.

That's what's commonly known as the "FarmAll HP conversion formula". As time goes by, the horsepower will "increase" with each mention of the tractor. In the hands of a typical BINDEROID TRACTOR PULLER, that HP rating will increase to well over 500 by lunchtime.

Actually, the fact is, every Farmall or IHC diesel built since the 560 had a power operated "smoke screw" which allowed the operator to violate his warranty any time he fired up his tractotr. I understand that using the infamous "grabhandle" caused the "smoke screw" to spin to "wide open" allowing the engine to butn fuel at prodigious rates and create vast, dense clouds of overfueled smoke, and also allow the suddenly overfueled and overpowered engine to pull it's way through minor difficulties! With other brands of diesel engines, the smoke screw was factory set and fixed in place with lead seals, thus preventing most other brand tractor operators from duplicating the "burn up your engine making extra hp" capabilities of the Farmall engines!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Not knocking you pullers, but like race cars, you put a lot of stress on your equipment for your enjoyment.

My enjoyment is having a piece of machinery that works when I need it and I don't have to spend money fixing something that I broke having fun.

To each his own.

Well Steve, if it weren't for the engine and the tire size, that would probably be possible. IH made the turbine powered tractor. It produced 80 hp and weighed 60 pounds and that included all the gears. Look at the article below, notice how it is all ford, allis, IH, and oliver? I think that left out a company not sure? :D maybe Allen can tell me what company I left out??? LOL!!! This missing tractor company just didn't think too much about the future I guess. Never heard of too many firsts about this company either.???

Not sure, might be a young Art Arfons on that Ford. Can't think of anyone else with the ba..s to take that thing out into the field. Certainly not me. Couldn't swallow that much moonshine (courage).

I hear tell of a Tridimensional tractor my Grandfather once saw operate before he was misteriously blinded. It pulled rated HP at the window crank.

Feller I worked with a long time ago had a 2cyl JD v8 diesel. Would rull anything he hooked on to as long as wife and mil were setting up front.

Wait,that should be 2 cycle,not 2 cylinder.
