Has anyone ever had the housing that comes up around the flywheel on a starter break in two. Had one break friday makes a very very bad sound I shut it down fast. What would make this happen? Vibration?

Is it time to call "New Orleans" just "Orleans"?After Katrina there's not much new about it.

Just got my starter back with a new housing. Started great more than 30 times. Then made a squeal. I removed the starter and the housing is broken again.

Inspect ALL the teeth on the flywheel's ring gear. Very likely, a tooth or two are damaged, or folded over, or there is s piece of debris between a couple of teeth.

Yep seen that before. Most of the time its caused by the starter not disengageing the flywheel and then the starter freezes up and bang broken parts. Not a good thing either.
