If it were me , I'd have it trailered home . Why chance any problems or causing internal damages . That's a precious gem you have so don't break it by towing .Best wishes . Ken

Troy, You might want to check out the Smiths site (8nford dot com ) to find out exactly which N series tractor you have. There is a lot of info there that will put you to the month it was made or at least the various parts were made. To the left of this page is SERIAL Numbers that will tell you when your engine/tractor was made. Towing speed is relative to the condition of the tires so if they are weather checked take that into consideration. Brakes are also a must have if you are using a rope or chain. It gets real exciting if the tow vehicle has to stop quickly. If they are not in adjustment a quick left or right grab can ruin your day at 20 mph

These forums are for tractor-related topics. At all times treat each other with courtesy and respect. Off-topic posts are accepted on a limited basis: No politics, religious discussions or topics that contain bigotry of any kind. These usually result in unkind words and take away from the friendly, helpful nature of this antique tractor community.

How Did That Get Added? in reply to Coldiron, 11-01-2005 06:23:41
Hmmm, How did that get added to my message? Never seen that added to a message I sent before. Guess it isnt a bad idea but I am not trying to set the standards. That is Kims job, which she does very well. LOL

CI,

I think that offsite URL triggered an auto response.

I agree with allen. This site is picky about using offsite URLs. You can't type them in completely. It seems that it won't let you put a link in for another tractor site that would be more helpful probably since there are ones out there for specific brands. Just one of those things about computers lol.

Does it have a 4 speed tranny?? If so its an 8N but it would also be called a 1948 first year they where made. Yes they started makeing them in 47 but even then they where called a 48 because if was the next years production/upgrade. Yep you can tow it but take it slow, and be safe.

As long as there is nothing wrong in the tranny or rear end or steering you can do that. I have 2N and 9N and have a tow bar for both and will pull them at up to 20-25 MPH but you have to have good tight steering for that and if the steering is correct you do not need anybody on tractor with the tow bar. Also did that with the NAA. and TO-30 that used to have. Also used to have a toung perment mounted on 38 A John Deere and now I have a tow dolly for narrow front wheel tractors. If you don't have that tow bar for the Ford and have far to go try to find a car tow dolly and use it.

Towing it is OK. Just don't tow it any faster than what the tractor would be able to do by itself. 20-25 mph, tops.
