We just bought an Allis Clamers G that does not have hydraulics on the front or the back. We want to change the transmission oil, but have been told to use two different types of oils---80/90 and straight 20. What type do you think we should use and why?

The G transmission is the same one as used in the B and C. They take 80-90 gear oil. Unless the tractor has hydraulics. The transmission is the oil resivour for the hydraulic systen so if you have hydraulics you use 20 weight oil. However now that "tractor lube" is available many use that. Tractor lube is a general purpose hydraulic, power steering, transmission, and whetever oil. Now on the G I don't know where the oil pump would go for the hydraulics. On the B and C it goes on the back of the transmission with the PTO. On the G, the engine is there. But anyway you have some info here. It is more important to have a good clean oil in the transmission than any special type as long as you are within reason. You don't want water which can get in through a shift lever boot that is cracked or missing. Very important on AC tractors to keep a good boot in place.

Refer to your manual and accept the manufactures recommendation. Good luck.....
