The bucks are in full fut around here. Drove from Manhattan, KS to Kansas City (about 100 miles) today and saw no fewer than a dozen blood spots on the turnpike where deer had been hit. We need a few more hunters around here!

I have to laugh at the comments ,,I actually took my tractor operating manual to read while I sat in the tree ,,so all wasn't lost

well guy's back from the hunt 3 squirrel's 1 bunny ,1 hawk ,and no deer ,,heard a bunch a shooting at my buddies stand ,,BUT HE'S WORKING,,guess he was feeding someone else's deer ..coyotes started howling at dusk ,,they are eating the apples we put out and leaving their signatures (CRAP) all around the bait..
I do love the hunt, and provide always got a freezer of "happy meat" ,but I've married a city girl and neither her or my new step son will eat "Bambi"or "thumper" so as for being the provider ,,my 7 brothers and sisters would still take it off my hands. Now the next disision ,,get up at 5am to try again or ...

Seems like that"s the way it alway is. The deer know when we don"t have a gun or bow on our side!

Put a gun rack or bow rack in tractor or combine. Possible to get a crop damage permit for extra deer on own land?-no pay for hunting license fee unless collected and recorded. Remembering Iowa and neighbor with 60 JD carrying .22 getting pheasants and rabbits. He didn't get tags for public hunting ground after picking corn- game warden said he had gotten enough on his own land and let the rest of the hunters have a chance. Wisconsin seed corn picking incident- last rows of corn to pick and deer ignoring combine picking next to them, stop, open door, put broadhead in deer, finish row and turn around, pick up deer and carry back to wagons at end of field for gutting. Bows are quite. Big JD with sisters Savage 24 in clips in cab for whatever. Brother with 357 ruger on H. Combine the activities.

My two best days of deer hunting this year involved putting a new floor in my manure spreader. Yesterday I lay the flooring; today I crawled underneath and tightened the nuts.

Hey, it's a sure thing. Monday and Tuesday I spent wandering around where there weren't any deer.

That wouldn't be a tough decision for me. Let someone else hunt the deer. I'll stay in my shop where it's warm and dry, or sit here in front of the computer and tell you how I would rather work on tractors than hunt deer. Maybe someone will share some venison with you?

It's a cold, nasty, miserable job but somebodys got to do it so get out there and bag a buck and hope you don't freeze or be too misearble while you are doing it. Hope it will be over quick and not have a very big pointy thing on it's head. Then you can get back to the things you like to do.

I look at it this way. If you are going to sit on stand but be thinking of your tractor project, then stay with the tractor. If your working on the iron but looking at the clock every three minutes because you know the deer are moving, then get out there. BUT if you take a good buck and you are a gazillion miles from level land, you know you should have been working on the four-
wheeler!

Phil, You must carry on the tradition of the man being the provider. It is your responsibility to provide your family the finest available food and it has been put before you. You have to set the other things aside that are of least importance and tend to the task at hand although you may not enjoy it. Load up that heavy rifle and trek out into the woods in the low temps and suffer the outcome but do provide for your family some tasty venison. You may not enjoy hunting but this is a way to gain self respect as a provider.

I'd go out and see if I could fill the freezer with some meat. Theres always tomorrow to play with the tractor but deer hunting only has a number of day that you can do that.
