What is an acceptable range of charge on a 6v system converted to 8v (8.5v-9v)? I don't want to burn out the ignition system.

Thanks, I have it charging 8.7v. The newer regulators don't have any adjusting screws on them so I bent the tab on the spring a little at a time.

J, a properly charged (4 cell) 8 volt battery should be 8.4 volts, so it should charge in the at least 8.5 to 9 and a lil over volt range as you mentioned. In the event the coil were running on the warm side (which I doubt would be much of a problem) you could add some external ballast resistance but you ought to be okay. The points will be switching a tad more current then normal and they may go bad a lil sooner, so keep an eye on them and use good condensors.

Its possible to tweak up the Voltage Regulator a bit if/as needed, but so long as she keeps the battery charged up you should be okay.
