I think it's time to replace the battery in my '01 Chevy K-3500 with 8.1. Is there anything I need to do other than pullin the old one out and dropping in the new one? Don't want the big fella to lose his memory or anything.

If you want a battery that will last 15 years,Rusty. Then go to Auto Zone and get an Optima. They are a bit pricey but you will have no corrosion problem or ever have to add water. One for your truck is about $106 with trade in.Auto Zone has the best price around here on this kind of battery.I am gradually switching all my batteries over.Check out this link for a better description of it and other batteries. Its a great site for batteries, bob

If you have one of those jump start packs, just plug it in to your cig. lighter and that will keep everything powered up while you make the switch. Always did this in the shop I worked in, don't have to reprogram radio, or let engine run to relearn. Dave

Thanks Dave, I don't have one of those, but since I plan on getting the battery from NAPA I will ask about one.

Have seen somthing like that in auto parts stores, consisted of a lighter plug hooked to a 9V radio battery with an isolator diode inline. With the diode in place, the 12-14 V from the car battery/electrical system could not flow into the 9V battery, yet when you disconnected the car battery, the 9v would keep the radio/clock/computer powered up untill the car battery was reconnected.
