Anyone goes to the auction? I could not make it
and am wondering what the MM UTC went for and what
was the condition of it. Also how much for the AC
WD45 diesel? Thanks.

Macfadden's auctions are a zoo, I can never keep track of what he's selling. I wouldn't buy anything from him at auction. He is a pretty straight and a reasonably priced place to buy Belarus parts and other salvage parts(wonder why).

I couldn't find the MM UTC, I believe it was sold before the auction. The AC WD-45 Diesel had quite a of steam coming out the breather, but looked okay and went for $5000. The Porche went for $2750, The AC crawler went for $3000 to an english buyer

I will tell you ALL this. Thats NOT an auction its a Tag sale. I have been watching some of the stuff rotate from auction to auction over the years. Biddr # 5 , is a Fellow from PA that is in Bed with Jim . He buys whatever Jim tells him to and it goes right out back . He wont even raise his hand. Jim just says his bidder number at the end . I know of many sales at his auction that have gone this way. On the other hand you can buy some stuff at a price thats not bad. Anything thats collectible or Rare will bring his price or go out back to be featured in his next auction ( tag sale) .Jim wanted $6000 for a John Deere R last spring auction, he flat out said to everyone , It will go out back to the scrap yard before he takes a dime less . Keep this in mind when you go .

#5 bidder couldn't raise his hand because he was at Lamb&Webster auction at the same day, his hands aren't that long

That seems to also apply to the other auctions he does for hire. I've gone to several that he ran, usually on-site farm auctions. It appeared to me, that anything interesting that was not bid up high, would later appear at his tractor-yard. I stopped going to any more such auctions, there seems to be no chance of getting a good deal on anything. I went to Jim's yesterday looking for used parts for my AC HD4 bulldozer, not to attend the auction. I like looking at the auction stuff, but do not think it's possible to get any bargains there. There's another equipment dealer nearby, Catskill Tractor in Franklin, NY and they have an "auction" every spring. There are a few items there that have become annual exhibits - and much is not for sale without the very-high minimum price being met. It will be in a few weeks, and I think their Deere 450 dozer is there for the fifth year at the bargain price of $16,000 ! It seems many advertised auctions are simply, as you state, tag sales - and often with a 10% buyer's premium added to the already high price.

I used to work at Catskill Tractor. I wondered if they would still be up to their old tricks even after Frank Walker bought them out. I feel sorry for you guys out in that part of the state. Hard to find a deal anywhere out there, I'm glad I moved my farm outta that area.

Catskill Tractor was one of our main competetors 20-25 years ago - before Walker took over. That's back when Ivan Walker had a permanent ad in the paper "wanted tractors - don't have to run" and had the auction barn down the road from Catskill. I assume that Frank is Ivan's son? I worked for the local Deere dealer (Oneonta), founded by a chicken farmer, Jim Lane, and we had "friendly" competition around like Able Equipment (Case), and Hardy Hanson (West End Implement IH), and Duffy Mohar (Allis Chalmers), and then the "not so friendly" like Catskill Tractor (Massey Ferguson) and Ecklund (Ford). I used to go to the equipment dealer's Christmas dinner every year, I kind of miss those days - and I guess most of the old tractor bosses are dead.

JDEMARIS, I am quite familiar with the way things work at Macfaddens. I also enjoy getting out of New Hampshire for the weekend and having a road trip with my buddies,we like to see whats there and have a Hot Dog and enjoy a weekend away. I usually get some IH suitcase weights while I am there. He sells them at a fair price .I attend a Good Auction each Month in Vermont , Sometimes the Auctioneer says at an Opening Bid , "Looks like were gonna rent it before we sell it". We all have a good chuckle , but it gets the bidding going.

I've got no answers, just more questions. I went to the Mcfaddens early morning and didn't feel like hanging around the snow, rain, the mud, and crowd. I live 20 miles from his place. The sun came out here for half an hour, not sure how it was at his place by bidding time. I tried to leave some absentee bids but got nowhere, gave up, and went home. Nobody was authorized to take such bids except Jim Mcfadden, and he was not available. So, I did not bid. I'd like to know what the Case #33 hoe went for, the Porsche tractor, and the Allis Chalmers HD7 if anyone knows?
