Truck to Tractor conversion

Hi!
I've been thinking of converting a toyota '81 pickup truck to a tractor (while I'm waiting for parts for the AC WD45 to come in). It has a 22r 90HP engine in it.
Thoughts.
If I got a large hydrolic pump and mounted it to the engine (since it doesn't have power steering it's not really crowded in there), it could power the three point hitch, external hydrolics, and - with a hydrolic motor, -could run a PTO.
The pickup has 4wd with a low range, so I'm hoping that no modifications will be needed there.
Any hints, tips, warnings, or suggestions?
Thanks .

Brrr!
I know, it isn't anything like nebraska, but 12 degrees is cold enough for me!
I like the idea about using blocks between the springs and frame, although I'll probably end up replacing the springs.
How many GPM would a hydraulic motor require? I'm kinda toying with the idea that it could power a baler, but it doesn't NEED to.
Would weight in the back solve the pulling problem? I'll have to remove the bed anyhow.
Thanks once again!
P.S. I think that the farm show magazine should be supported; its been a great inspiration for me!
How many people have a subscription?

My sister has one of those trucks 4wd. I think it will go straight up with 2-200 lb people in it but pull. Ain't happening. We hooked it to a 3/4" horseshoe stake just to check.Off and on it would spin 2 of 4 tires but ain't movin that stake.

Sounds like a great idea... in reply to Truth seeker, 02-18-2006 17:53:10
I have an 80' 2wd with a 20r in it. I'll be putting tracks on it shortly.

If you wish to pull with the pickup/tractor, I'd suggest you build some sort of radius arm or ladder truss to keep the axles from wrapping the springs up. If you plan to pack much with the 3pt, either install air bags or completly lock out the rear suspension. The closer you can get the 3pt to the rear axle the better. If I knew how to post pictures on this site, I'd post one of my double ended forklift on a chevy 4x4 chassis. I cut the rear of the frame off so I could get the rear mast closer to the axle. Works 100%.

If you do this, please keep us informed of the progress. I'd be very interested in your project.

Springs my cause problems. Take the rear ones out and mount the axle solid, or add blocks between the axle and frame to restict the movement.

Most "tructor" conversions eliminate the truck rear axle and suspension, with a tractor transaxle fitted to the end of the shortned truck frame. The truck rear driveshaft is coupled to the tractor transmission input shaft, giving a great selection of gears when using both truck and tractor transmission. The tractor pto and transmission mounted hydraulics/three point hitch work normally. A small belt driven hydraulic pump, even a power steering pump will supply enough oil volume and pressure for most live hydraulic duty.
