I've bought a JD 3010. It looks like an Utility tractor, but it has a steel seat and very small fenders. The serialnumber is 16T. Is there someone who know what kind of tractor it is?

I put a photo of my tractor at TRACTOR PHOTOS. When I have this tractor at home, I can make more of it.

If you have one of those (type 16T Special Row Crop Utility), in all likelyhood NOBODY else even has a decent photograph of one.

I would bet that people at EITHER of the two major John deere magazines would think that a picture or two or twenty would be GREAT! They MIGHT even want to do an article on it. So would any number of other collector magazines.

At the very least you ought to send one into this website for posting in "TRACTOR PHOTOS".

There was some info on a tractor like this in the 10 Series New Generation Tractors book from Green Magazine. The 16T in the serial number makes it a "Special Row Crop Utility." There were only 118 built and all were exported to South Africa. The description you give is the same as in the book. Steel pan seat, short clamshell fenders, and the wheels were pressed steel instead of cast. Also the trans had no synchronizers and the diesel engine didn't have a balancer shaft in it like the other 3010's. A real bare bones tractor.

Thank you for your answer. It is right, this tractor come from South Africa and was exported to Holland for a few year ago. They would use it for tractorpulling, but they hadn't time enough to rebuild it. Now I have bought this tractor and try to make it as original as possible. The motor was broken so they replaced it for a JD 3020 engine. It has pressed steel wheels too.

There was a little problem with the transmission, the secound group didn't shift correct and the seller wanted to repair it. If you like I can send you some photo's.

Do you have a copy from the article of that book, I am very interested in it.

Thank you,

Karel Holland

16 T HMMM dont know that one, Check the rear of the transmission case, number S.N. ending in 1000 is 1961, From 1001 to 19801 is 1962Then on up to 1972. Let us know what you find and can help more.
If you can post a picture or give reference to one that would help. You could put it in the tractors photos easily and give us a link or photo number. Hope this helps.
