While on vacation in Mexico with the family. My neighbor"s garage started on fire. Then proceeded to my truck, then proceeded to my garage and my 2 cars inside. Not to mention all my tools and other stored personal property. What a mess to come home to.

This is a real wake up call to at least take pictures of every room in your house and of every wall of your garage. Not to mention making sure you have enough insurance. I didn"t. This was my first fire. I can"t imagine losing a house. Thank the Lord that no one was hurt.

It is a real wake up call for most people. I have been involved if firefighting for 11 years, and I hate to see and hear what people have to go through. We had a guy in our fire protection district who had a fire 2 years ago and he is still fighting with his insurance company. The best thing a guy can do is take pictures of everything and keep them in a safe place. Insurance companies define buildings buy room and contents, but if you cannot show them the "contents", or any reciepts, you will have problems. The way people store things in their homes is crazy two. I know of a situation where a guy had 2 batteries setting on a table, and a very large box of bolts fell off of a shelf onto the batteries. The batteries make contact with the bolts, and to make a long story short, burnt half of his house down! It is wierd, but it did happen!

They can "get-er-done" partly because they have no insurance companies or government getting in the way fouling up things.

Take New Orleans as an example of the other extreme.

Well, it certainly is a different picture than the one we saw in New Orleans. I didn't see anyone saying, "Where's the government?" or "Where's my money?"... Sure looks like a positive approach to me. Tim
