Hi,

I just bought a 1950 something 8n diesel that already had a 12 volt conversion kit on it. The guy I bought it from had no idea how to rewire it. By reading the other messages it looks like some of the wires are connected to a resistor, or something that might had a dial on it. Can anybody help with a wiring diagram? Thanks

John has you covered on the wiring diagram. As he said, the diesel Fords were 12V right outta the box with a 12V generator. Maybe you thought it was a coversion because someone changed out the genny and replaced it with an alternator?

Also, if you found the model and serial numbers, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. It seems like a lot of the 4 cylinder diesel Fords have no serial numbers anymore because of the battery location. Over the years, leaking battery acid drips on the s/n and eats it away. I've seen it on lots of diesel Fords.

If you have a 801 Diesel it came from the factory 12V.

So now we need to know does it still have the stock generator on it or a aftermarket alternator.

If it has the stock generator use the wiring diagram linked below.

As Bob said there is no 8N diesels that where ever made. Look by the starter on the flat area behind it and you will find the serail numbers and model numbers. You will probably need to clean the area real good to see them. Post those numbers and then some one will be able to help you.

First of all, we need to know what you REALLY have, as there is no such thing as an "8N diesel", at least not a factory-original one!
