I have come across a 1959 Ford 971 SOS. I have not seen many of these around. Are they considered "collectable"?

Are there any good "Ford" websites where I can learn more about this old gal?

If the tranny works good there ok but if it has trany problems there a money pit. Smae tractor with a 4 or 5 speed tranny is worth 2 or 3 times as much. My self I would only have one if it was super cheap or was given to me

Would love to buy a 871 "at one third" the price of a 4 speed. I have access to a 59 (thats 47 years old) that works perfectly. "Broken down" 4 or 5 speeds don't sell all that good either.

Try the "Ford Board" on this website. Also the 9N board. There are folks there who know a lot about them. The appropriately dubbed "SOS" transmission gave a lot of buyers a lot of problems and parts are hard to come by. We tried one in the spring of '59. It was a gold demonstrator which I'm told is a sought after collectors tractor today. I talked my dad out of buying it and we were later happy we didn't, given all the problems. Ford never was able to perfect the SOS but it later became the basis of the very successful powershift.
