A recent patch to Windows has been causing problems for some systems. Symptoms include:

You cannot access special folders such as "My Documents" or "My Pictures."
Microsoft Office applications stop responding when you try to save or to open Office files in the "My Documents" folder.
Office files that are located in the "My Documents" folder cannot be opened.
If you open a file by clicking Open on the File menu, the application stops responding.
When you type an address in the Address box in Microsoft Internet Explorer, nothing happens.
When you right-click a file and then click Send To, nothing happens.
When you expand a folder in Windows Explorer, nothing happens.
Some third-party applications stop responding when you open or save data in the “My Documents” folder.

If this sounds like your problem, see the link below.

The slow computer may not be what you are experiencing,
but doing all that stuff is an excellent place to start.

Also could be an overheating problem.
They overheat and will shut down or act wonky.

If you have anti spyware programs check for that--are you using a firewall--download Firefox and use it instead of IE

Chris,

A bad battery drives those things nuts. Even when you are using the AC adaptor.

Chris, I think that is what mine is doing. Was trying to convince wife I needed a new one. But will see if this one is fixable.

I have a 4 yr.old Accer laptop also. Dont know anything much about computers.
