My "new" Fahr Model 40 tedder (just got it at an auction) has a leak in the gear box which works its way out at the first basket it comes to. How much trouble will I cause for myself if I replace the fill plug in the gear box (is it metric?) with a grease fitting and go from there?

I had the same problem two years ago and did as you suggest. It has worked great.

I had a leaking seal on my woods mower gear box in the middle of my busy mowing season. I used semi fluid grease until I got around to changing the seal. Stan
