Went to Cokato (MN) tractor salvage yard yesterday to look around. The owner is clearing the place out most tractors are being hauled off and melted down. All most all the Allis section was gone, looks like the fords are next and on down the line they go. Another fellow I saw poking through parts said the owner offered to sell off whole lots but no one took him up on it. With metal prices being so high, they have a huge semi come by and they dump them in. The place wan"t that large put I always seemed to have some luck when I needed a part or two, it"s to bad to see it go.

I hadn't heard this.
I've been there a couple of times and my impression of the place is that they had long since sold off anything that was marketable in that yard. Like how much call is there for the big heavy castings from a tractor ie. axle housings or trannys with the guts stripped out of them. Ultimately there's only one thing to do with all that cast iron and that's recycle it - hopefully when the market is high.

I was there back in November and they had all ready started back then. They still have a lot of sheetmetal left. I was on my lunch break so I dug what I could think that I needed and left. Wish I would have had more time and money

With the older models there is little local market for parts and so it requires more labor to remove, clean, and ship parts. I work alone and can still afford to mess with it. Most yards won't. But even here when a tractor gets stripped down to the stuff that won't sell, it's gotta go. I moved out one load and will move another as soon as a trailer shows up. I get a couple local boys to prep and load on shares and I still get a pretty nice check.

Even bad boys are just as good as they can be
