Since before I was around, Lenny has been farming this area, he's been turning our soil for over 40 years, I'll bet he's got close to 60 years in now since he was youngster, I've always enjoyed seeing this every spring.

I've seen this field with corn, wheat, oats, alfalfa, it's first field I ever baled, think I was 11 with a Ford 4000 S-0-S and 532 baler, took my first whitetail here, saw it burn 21 years ago, many turtles have laid there eggs here, ( I sometimes take a clutch and raise them ), all kinds of history for me here. Early Saturday morning his son came out with the discs and went over the corn stubble, and Lenny hit it with the 5 bottom which that former Saratoga raceway (late model 7420 JD used for dragging) pulled like nothing, he recently sold some acreage, got rid of his heifers, decided to buy a late model to enjoy doing what he's been doing for years. I thought it was time for some shots for the record, perfect morning for field work, cool crisp still spring air, the diesel fumes lingered for awhile. Lets see if I can do this the first time out, I'll post a few more.

Nice crop of high tension and cell phone towers. Looks just like around here in Wooster Ohio towers as far as the eye can see !

I don't like them either, I see on the original deed to this place their 185 foot wide easement has been in place since 1933, another circuit is coming through, they are preparing to put in another steel tower right now, to replace the existing wooden set making the crossing over our 23 acre pond visible through the trees in the one photo.

In the summer, when the lines hang lower due to higher temperatures, I am very careful how I cross under with the D7 crawler, always right up next to the tower where the line is the highest. I can't imagine you would know what hit you with the voltage involved here. I've been after them to raise up the section, one line has a patch in it and a bullet notch out of it between the patches. I noticed during hunting season I can get a blue spark, to span from my rifle's trigger guard to my thumb, I'm going to ask the linemen tomorrow what the voltage is, aint nothin to fool with. I've got a clover patch right under the lines, dread mowing under them. The red and white tower is on a mountain little farther away, it's local television station, that never bothere me, gets hit by lightening quite often in the summer.

Kind of on the newer side, he's been at it a long time, subtle changes here and there, less acreage, been able to keep afloat all these years. It's always nice to see the field worked, he's doing a few hundred acres I think, most fields are close in proximity, they make their rounds, the rolling hills have some great views, of the hudson valley, lot of developers after these lands now.

I've been sick for a solid week and while normally up at an early hour, I heard the sound of discs rattling against the round rocks Saturday morning, mostly glacial till here, nearby areas have a lot of gravel deposits, this is a bottom field in a valley, I've never seen a bad crop come off it, even in the driest of years.

The photo posting thing seems easy enough, I resized them to 640 x 480 on my pc, got them down to an 200-250 kb file size, then uploaded to the free hosting site, which via dial up is really kind of slow, then just copy pasted the url below, which is simple, just have to figure out how to set the commands to string a few in one post now. Figured someone might enjoy a few from this end of the woods.

Thanks for the pics., Something about pics with machinery working that seems soo much more appealing than just sitting there. I really enjoy pics the way farms ran in the 70's and 80's as oppsed to todays modern ways. Brings back fond memories of a dying way of farmin. sigh..... ..... ..
