Probably should have put this on the combine form. While watching my grandson's ball came and east bound N-S train went east with either 118 or 120 brand new combines on the train. I got interrupted so I am not sure on the count. First half on the train was all Case International with a few New Holland combines. Last half was all deere's. Icheck with my one boy who is the train man He wanted to bet me all export and all going to Baltimore MD> Several years on CSX I saw some red 70-75 combine trains. They went same place and then to Russia. The railroad police at that time followed each train. Nice impressive sight. J>

Where was this train spotted? Case IH and New Holland make all of their combines in one joint plant in Grand Island, Nebraska ever since they closed their last Quad Cities Iowa combine plant a year ago.

JDKnut,
I agree with you that would of been a great wall paper for a back-ground. That always seems to happen when you don't have the camera with you.

John,
Was this the train that runs through Archbold?
Mike

Yes It was I was in Wauseon and the ball field is about a quarter mile from the tracks. I talked to my other son who works for CSX and he said that is not the first one of these they ran. When CSX ran them several years ago I talked to the railroad policeman that followed the train. Se said headers and all that stuff is loaded into containers, that is why you don't see it on the combine train. Also us farmers at the ball came wondered why some of the Deere's had the drive wheels removed. Either they were not all the same size combines or not the same size tires. J.

I work in New Zealand, combines come here roll-on/ roll-off on slave wheels so they get on the decks of ships. As you rightly said the headers come in containers with roll back tops and we hire a mobile crane in to lift them out. The proper wheels and tyres come in another container and we send all the slave wheels back when we have enough to fill a container

You don't suppose they removed the tires to get the oval height down? to clear bridges and low Vydocks? Maybe even to narrow down the oval width?

too bad you couldn't have gotten a shot of that, it would make a heck of a computer desktop background.
