Hi all, found this site on a search. Looks pretty good, but searching the archives wasn't helpful.

Anyway, my IH 154 lo boy starts to die out on me when I engage the mower deck. I nurse the engage lever slowly to keep it running. When I put it in gear and start to let the clutch out, it really has trouble staying running. I disassembled and cleaned the carb, no help. The points look fine. It runs ok for the first 5-10 minutes then when it warms up it dies out. I'm new to the 154 lo-boy. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Thnaks

Thanks for the clarification. My tractor is in fact a International Cub 154 Lo Boy. I was thinking coil too. I'm going to the parts place this morning and get points, condensor, cap and rotor. Don't know if theycan teat a coil, but i'll take that along too. I don't know how long its been since this thing had a tune up, but I'm guessing the parts wouldn't cost that much.

Thanks.

Pull a plug wire and let it arc to ground.. this will test your coil.. a fat blue spark thast will jump 3/16 inch gap is a good coil.

You may just have a tired engine and low compression.. or it may have sat a while and have stuck rings. if so.. put some MMO down the spark plug holes and let it set a day.. stuff some paper towell into the holes to keep dirt out.. roll the engine over a tad to move the cyls an inch or so.. re-top off with MMO wait another day..then take an old towel you don't wan't and roll the cyls over gently with the towel over the head to soak up all that MMO oil that's gonna leak out. Reinstall plugs and go.

If it is still weak, check the carb adjustment.

Cheap ATF Tranny oil works 95% as good as MMO.. and is way cheaper.
