Nephew has this one, 1.9L engine, fuel injected, automatic trany. Been sitting for a couple months, wouldn't start. For whatever reason it started today but would barely idle. Plugs were checked and gapped, getting fuel past the filter. It will start after much cranking and with some 'feathering' of the accelerator, will -slowly- speed above idle(as if each cylinder was coming on line one at a time). When at or above ~ 2500 rpms it runs like a scalded xxx ape(in park). When I would let off the gas it won't idle or will attempt to with much 'shudder'. EACH plug is getting fire(has the distibutor-less ignition). NO codes or "Check Engine" light. Does it need a well-placed .44? I'm leaning towards ignition module or egr? ANY and ALL help is appreciated!!

on all fords w/ the new electonics if they set a long time or the batt. goes dead or unhooked they loose their memory-- they usually have to be driven for a while-- sometimes 30 miles to reset everything-- then they idle OK as long as their is nothing wrong and throwing codes.

ESC,try unplugging the mass airflow sensor. This is located in the air intake tube and has 4 terminals. If it runs better, there"s the problem.I see it alot.

Brad, Thanks for the reply! I unplugged the MAF today but there was no change. After turning off the check engine light, I warmed it up and got two codes, Secondary fuel pressure circuit ground and MAF voltage low. Funny thing, while in the monitor mode, the engine actually sped up and idled about right while plugged into the scan tool. My next move is to attempt to clean the maf with some 'electrical cleaner', the fuel pump ground was bright and shiny. Any ideas? Thanks again for the help!

Esc,
When the scanner is hooked up,it completes a ground path that is missing.
Here's some grounds to check.
G100-LH top of engine under air cleaner assy
G101-top LH rear of eng. comp.near wiper mot.
G102-LH side of engine on transaxle
G103-lower LH rear of engine comp. on firewall
G106-front of RH inner fender-well
G114-LH side of engine
G115-Top LH side of engine
These grounds should be clean and tight
