  3???? Re: Hercules IXB 3 engine in reply to 960, 07-16-2006 15:26:25
I think if you read that again it will be 4 instead of 3 as that number indicates the no of cyls in a herc no.
Check out the forklift junk yards they IXB were used in many of them. It also mybe obtained in a diesel version with a D in the model as in IXB 4D

As other posters already said - the number refers to the timing gears - not amount of cylinders. I just put an IXB5 into a Cletrac OC-3 that originally had an IXB3. They are both four cylinder engines of the same size. The IXB5 is more modern and adaptable to different applications. We bought several complete, brand-new, old-stock IXB5s recently. They come with a bunch of adapters so the exhaust can be mounted in several locations, a distributor igniton or a magneto can be mounted, and there is also an engine-driven hydraulic pump mount if desired.

Doesn't the number 3 represent the number of gears in the timing gear cover? My service manual says That.

IXB, IXB-3, & IXB-5 were all 4 cylinder. A GO130 Hercules was a 3 cylinder. A JX4-3 is 4 cyld, A QXD-3 & QXD-5 is a 6 cylinder. Anyway new pistons & rings are available from EGGE Obsolete Engine Parts.
