The topic came up yesterday while hauling wheat to town. How much crop land will be taken out of production if diesel fuel prices reach $4.00 per gallon next year and also include the fertilizer and other item made from oil if crop prices stay the same?

I think that the more expensive fuel gets the more acres will be farmed. Think ethanol and bio-diesel. The more expensive fuel gets the more attractive ethanol and bio-diesel become.

You sound like my father inlaw. You are aware of the problem but refuse to be open minded enough to deal with it. In Europe diesel is way more expensive then it is here, an they are still farming. I can be done.

Don't know, but it's not a good thing. The only answer I can think of is to make sure that everytime you start that engine it is absolutely necessary. If it isn't necessary, leave it parked. My truck hadn't been started for about two weeks. Today I ran about 100 gallons of fuel through it. Tomorrow it will probably just sit again.
