When I was growing up I didn't really like the wheatland or standard tread tractors because you couldn't put a mounted cornpicker or a front-mount cultivator on them. About all we raised was corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. Anyway, now these big old wheatland tractors really interest me. I would just love to have (you guessed it) a I-1456 (with 24.5x32's and no cab). Now back to the question. What was the most popular wheatland tractor? I know there were a lot of different areas where these tractors were used but I was just curious. Thanks

There were around 67,000 IH W and WD -9 tractors built.

I'm willing to be that the JD D had higher numbers, but was produced many many more years and had several updates.

John Deere D made 1924-53. Any other wheatlands made that long? Our place even saw a red one in there WDR-9, then JD 830, JD 5010 with 24.5-32 tires, & JD 6030 with 30.5-32 tires. Others used in area Case LA, 900, MM G, MM GB, MM GVI, Massey 55, JD R, & 820. Oliver 99 & Super 99.

Between 1945 and 1955 I drove several of them, my choice of them was the Case L A .

My favorite Wheatland would be the IH 756 with the D310 engine. Lots of power for its size and yet a classy tractor. Marv

The 55 Masseys were popular around here. I'd guess the IH W9 is gonna be up there in pretty big numbers. Don't forget L & LA Case too. third party image
