I have a 1948 8N which I have not started for 4 years. Is there a recommended process I should go through before I try to turn it over this summer? It ran fine when I put it in the garage 4 years ago. Thanks

One thing that surprises me about this excellent site is that the articles list has no article on starting equipment that's been sitting; while very often there are special things to do or watch for, depending on the individual tractor or whatever, there's still a raft of general things, and the engine, while important, is just the start: all the fluids should be changed, or at least inspected, every seal has to be watched, and so on. And you never know what you're getting into: one unit will sit for years and be fine, another will sit six months and have all kinds of problems. Run the archives here, and make notes as you go along through the posts. Does anyone know of a good checklist to recommend from some other site?? Good luck.

I would put about a 1/4 cup of tranny fluid in each of the cylinders before even tring to turn it over. Doing that will per lube the cylinder walls and also free up the rings if they are sticking.
