I'm kind of new to tractors and I am trying to find out what a BG pump is. What exactly is a BG pump used for? What does "BG" stand for? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

-Steve

I was able to talk to a friend of mine who knows a bunch about ag. equipment and he said the term "B G pump" actually refers to a pump that was made by a company called Be Ge. The Be Ge pump was apparently used on older crawler tractors that were made by primarily Caterpillar and a few other companies like International. The Be Ge pump is apparently an add on aftermarket gear type hydraulic pump that is used to power implements. I guess the older crawler tractors didn't have built in hydraulics.

I found an ad for an International TD18A that mentions BG pump, but it is not spelled "Be Ge" like the company name. Apparently the Be Ge company was located in Gilroy, CA and since the pumps were used on crawler type tractors they were more common on the West Coast than the East Coast. The Be Ge company went out of business in early eighties apparently. I did a search for the name Be Ge and not much comes back. I guess they are kind of rare now.

1.) Is this a serious question?

2.) What country are you from?

3.) What tractor, in particular, does this question refer to???

1) Yes this is a serious question. As I stated before I"m new to tractors and I know a little, but I have never heard the term BG pump until recently. Sorry if it seems like a joke.
2) I"m not sure what relevance this has to what a BG pump but I am from San Luis Obispo, CA in USA. What country are you from?
3) It doesn"t refer to a specific tractor, but I have heard the term used with a 1950"s vintage International TD18A crawler tractor.
4)Is there some other forum I need to post this question on, or is this the wrong forum to ask this question on?

I was not trying to be offensive. I was trying to get some background on the question to try to give you a sensible answer. It obviously is not a common question, as there were no replies!

I think there is a BG HYDRAULICS outfit in Europe that makes a lot of industrial stuff.

IIRC, there was (or is?) a BEE GEE company, perhaps in your part of the country, that made add-on hydraulics for older farm equipment.

I think I remember having some literature from them, but so far haven't found it.

I thought someone else would have "chimed in" by now!
