Got a question for you guys. Is it safe to run with the torque amplifier pulled back for very long on these units or will it hurt it. Just wondering.

Thanks Greg

Greg,

It won't hurt a thing; forward, back, 'er whatever. That's what they were made for. :>)

Just cautious I guess. All that new power I just ain't used to it yet. With the baler I have it just seems to feed best with 3rd and the torque pulled back. Also are they free wheeling like the old torques. I have level ground and couldn't tell. Thanks a bunch

No, they do not freewheel, until the brake pack gets fried. Then it's time for a new TA anyway. Our 3088 runs the NH 790 chopper the best in low 7th, which would be low 4th with the TA back on any IH prior to the 88 series. That's what it's there for. The three best ways to wreck a TA is not changing out all of the rear end oil at least once every couple years, not keeping the linkage adjusted, and shifting from direct to low to slow down a heavy load, such as coming flying in off of the road with a full wagon and pulling the stick back. That will fry the brake pack quick.
