Noisy when I raise loader

1955 Ford 640 with loader:

When I raise the loader, the hydraulic system is quite noisy. I'm not sure if I'm missing any power (I haven't done anything to really challange it) or not. Hard to explain the noise (groaning/screeching?), but it's annoying and it just doesn't sound right. Should I get a pump repair kit (I have the shop manual and part catalog) or just live with it? I have some hose leaks but I'm looking for a hose maker to fix that issue.

Well, I've pulled off a couple leaking hydraulic hoses today so I'll have to wait to get back at this topic.

Now I just gotta figure out how to bleed the bloody hydraulics once I get the new hoses on.

If youve got plenty of hyd oil in it, its usually either a clogged filter/screen or the pump is worn, often the housings on pumps that old wear enough that the oil bypasses the vanes and they get noisey. a kit may do the trick but Id factor in just how much pressure I need vs dollars before sinkin alot into new pump....yeah, I guess theres a little cheapskate in my lineage...lol... Oh almost fergot, check the suction line (going TO the pump) they sometimes colapse inside and restrict oil flow while still looking fine and not leaking on the outside...luck...Don

I would check your fluid level like someone said, also how much weight are you putting on the loader? You dont want to overload the loader or hydraulics.

Is it a front mount pump or does it run off the tractors system. More info would help a lot
