I was shocked to hear what happened in Lancaster Co. Yesterday. I must not have been up on the news I heard about it early this morning. The police beleive they know what motivated this individual to do this horrible crime, and when the Police spokesman explained it, i made no sense i couldnt find the motive in what he said. I must be very rural county ingnornant, did i miss somthing? But aside from that let our thought and prayers today go out to the families that lost their children yesterday.DTURKE

What sickens me is the way the media salivates over these school shootings. I can't help but believe it whets another sick mind some where for some of the same attention. Yet they deny that their saturation coverage is contributory to the next one.

Being here in Lancaster County, it has dominated the local TV and radio news and just about fills the morning paper. I've read through the police & family statements and the reporters speculations and haven't seen one thing yet that can explain it. How sick do you have to be to line up little girls and shoot them?

Supposedly they think it is over some slight or insult to him that occured 20 years ago when he was 12. It seems like it was directed at the girls. Not because they were Amish, but because they were handy and the school was small and easy to take over by one man. Not much of a reason to kill little girls is it? Sad and sick. I wish he would have just commited suicide and let the kids alone.

Obviously he was insane, but that's not much consolation for the families.

Dave, Where are you at? I am in Lititz, Lancaster County. It sure is sad here. Less than a year ago we had a double murder that made national media. Sad...

The stupid federal law mandating no firearms within a 1000 foot of school has been quite handy to these losers. They know once they gain access to the school building they have complete control for the first time in their miserable life. Wonder how many more we'll bury before people get a clue.

The implications from the news coverage is that it didn't have anything to do with the Amish- that Amish school was just near his home. Probably the small size of the school suited his purpose of taking it over, also. 3 school shootings in the past week, and 2 were by adults.

It had something to do with a 20 year old grudge, when the killer was 12 or so. Can't think of a thing that the Amish could do that would make a person mad at them let alone kill innocent kids. Other than dodging horse poop, waiting to pass them on the road and being out bid by them, never ever had a bad experience with them. Nice people.

I was watching a TV report yesterday about the incident and later they listed all the similar events over the past few years that have happened on both sides of the border. The list is a lot longer than you might think. I guess it's a sure thing that you're gonna get someone if you're so inclined without experiencing resistance or a fight, and for sure the shooter is going to get the exposure they all seem to strive for. It's a sad day for us all, especially the victims family and friends. I do honestly believe that a lot of this has to do with years-gone-by bullying somewhere along the line. I'm not making excuses or rationalizing such behavior, just stating what has likely happened over the years to some of these characters. They most often seem to be social misfits of one type or the other with very few friends.
