Back in the middle 40s my grand dad had a tractor called a "General", single front wheel, they used it for doing tomatoes and a few other things. Does anyone known of a site to look at and do some reading on them. thanks for any info you can share...

Go to the "tractor photo" siteon the left side of this page and search for "General". There are many photos.
The one our Lake Region Pioneer Threshing Show gave away this past Sept. was a 1939 model.
They were a very basic tractor; the only wheel tractor Cletrac sold before selling out to Avery in the early "40"s.

The General was built by Cletrac and was sold to B F Avery when the tracked unit was sold to Oliver. B F Avery sold this tractor as the Avery A. Some tractors were sold by Montgomery Wards as the Two Row.

Per some of the tractor history books Generals were built and/or sold 1927/8 thru 1931/2, probably dying (with lots of others) in the crash; noted were a 10-12 2cyl gas (31/4 x 41/2) and a 9-12 2 cyl diesel (31/2 x 51/4),both supposedly their own engines, which was a bit unusual at the time. Meant to do a little digging myself but never got around to it. Good luck.

Maybe try the "Lesser known Classics" forum....

There is a guy from Michigan that has a collection of Avery and General's. Ran into him in Florida a couple of winters ago. Might post a query for the Florida Flywheelers as he pulls with them guys in the winter.
