Howdy,

We all had a pretty rough day at the dealership Friday. First off, it was our service manager's last day at work. He's been with us for better than 15 years I believe. Unfortunately he wasn't retiring either. He's simply going to a different job. Told me that he didn't want to have to be carried out on a stretcher. A lot of folks didn't realize the amount of stress that he was under. He was the first person to go the extra mile to help customers but people pretty much used and abused that good quality he had. He would have people call him at home at all hours, stop off at his shop and bother him constantly. It was ridiculous and pretty much drove him out of here.

But to top that off we came in Friday morning to find out that one of our nicest customers had been killed the night before. He was working around a moving pto shaft and the draw strings on his hood got caught choking him to death. He was only 50. His family is really tore up and a lot of the folks here that knew him well are too. I didn't know him very well but did find him to be a heck of a nice guy. Please keep his family in mind and those who knew him. A sad story for sure and it shouldn't have happened. God bless.

Thoughts and prayer for both familys. To bad about the service manager, I suppose we are all guilty of "over" using helpful people, even on the internet. Thanks to all the folks who continue to share the wealth of knowledge they have. Hope that neighbors will pull to gather and help the family of the fellow farmer during this time.
PTO's are wonderful things but like so many things around the farm, they can be a hazard. Bob

Thanks for sharing this story,i guess one can't stress enough about safety around moving machinery
as accidents happen so easily

Same thing happened to me two years ago. a piece of my tattered sweatshirt got caught by the PTO shsft on the auger. i knew right away what was happening. I grabbed ahold of the auger and held on tight. Luckily my clothes were on the worn out side. it puleed a tee shirt, two flannel shirts and a sweatshirt off of me. All I had left on me was a cuff from one of the flannel shirts. Luckily I escaped with only bruises and deep zipper burns from the sweatshirt that was ripped off of me. It took me nearly an hour to cut the wrapped clothing off of the pto shaft. They were wrapped around it like a rubber band. I have not forgotten this and has made me VERY aware of the danger around the machinery we use.

You must be talking about Jeff Holbrook, as he was a friend of mine also.

Howdy,

Yeah, it was Jeff Holbrook. Where are you located by the way? Got more info this morning on that accident. I guess it was an auger that got him and not the pto. Still tragic. God bless.

Paul I really doubt if you are wrong, that was most likely Jeff. The only detail you forgot was the glasses. Email is open, I got to know Jeff really well while I was there.

I live in Liberty Indiana, I use to live in Hillsboro Ohio. I had heard yesterday that it was an auger that got Jeff. I imagine that his father and family are probably really shook up. My sympathies to them.
