I wouldn't taunt the host.

I have been around here long enough to know you are barking up the wrong tree. It starts out as a simple misunderstanding, carried on through playful banter that gets out of hand, and leads to, well, lets just say she always wins. Rightly so in my opinion.

And stirring up the natives isn't helping.....

It's not about winning and loosing. I have always supported yt and will continue to do do. Mine is just a fun board, I don't think it is going to detract from this site.

I agree. MyFreind... in reply to MyFreind, 11-19-2006 19:56:14
MyFreind,

I have to agree with you.

1.) I'm about as plain and simple of a country redneck as God ever put on this earth, and have fathered 4 boys (LORD help me!)who have had their share of hurts, injuries, and wrecks. I lost the eldest at just short of 18 years, due to the lingering effects of a severe birth injury. My kids have NOT be coddled, or raised in a "politically correct fashion".

Yet, every time I saw that photo I cringed. When I was 4 or 5, I stuck one of my Grandma's hairpins in an outlet, causing it to vaporize, burning my hand, the scars of which I still have 45 years later. WHY did I do that (besides stupidity)? 'Cause my Uncle was an electrician, and I had watched him, countless times, check for power at outlets, by inserting the prongs of a neon test light, which I imitated with the hairpin. So, who says kids don't imitate what they see?

2.) Where I come from, a GENTLEMAN expects to follow the rules of his female host, while in her "parlor".

(DISCLAIMER, I ADMIT there's been a handful of times over the years I have made a SHORT reference to something I've had on ebay, prefacing it with a disclaimer, so folks could easily avoid reading it. Usually, it has been in direct response to someone desparately seeking something not for sale on THIS site, or readily obtainable. Certainly not 50 or 100 times a day, though. So I'm NOT entirely innocent, either, and will accept chastisement from the management, if and when I "cross the line!)

3.) A CLASSY gentleman, having been "corrected" by his female host, would accept the chastisement GRACIOUSLY, and not TAUNT her.

Stop and think, guys, this is not some "bashing board" that will go off-line in a few months.

It is a POPULAR, long-lasting site, that is continuously being archived for posterity.

Also, it is "under the wing" of corporate sponsorship, (read COMMERCIAL), which means DEEP POCKETS exposed to lawyers if anything DANGEROUS or potentially LITIGIOUS is allowed to go on (and ON), with the apparent "APPROVAL" of the site owner.

So, in reality, KIM is acting within good corporate judgement by asking CM to refrain from continously posting that silly photo.

There's a LOT of difference between a private "for fun" website, and this one, with commercial sponsorship.

Also, if you think KIM is unreasonable with the "outside links" posted here, you should deal with Harry Matthews, the owner of the SMOKSTAK site.

I was a longtime reader and contributor over there, and finally held my nose and walked away, after having several of my posts deleted, and being chastised through email by Harry for posting ANY outside links. He specifically despises KIM's site, and those were the links he deleted. They were in reply to posts that were NOT getting answers on SMOKSTAK, and I knew folks over here could answer them. It was NOT even a matter of COMMERCIAL CONTENT. No one was looking to BUY or SELL anything, just looking for some "oldiron" answers. Through apparent jealousy of ANY other "oldiron" sites, they got deleted, and folks went without knowledge they could have obtained, had the links been left, and contact had been made with certain "experts" over here.

So, let's all try to live within KIM'S rules, and not make more out of this than KIM making a prudent business decision!

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG????

Bob... stepping off of his soapbox, and rushing to don asbestos underwear.... (OOOPS... can't do that anymore, either, NOT "PC") (or, is that "environmentally sound"), LOL!

Well said Bob.

What we don't know is that if there has been previous correspondence between NC and Kim. Maybe she asked him privately to begin with, but was ignored so had to handle it this way?

NC has a lot of friends here, and has always been helpful and has shown good judgement. Likewise Kim has also always shown good judgement running this site and dealing with the individuals here. Perhaps she deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Clearly this post was a taunt and reminiscent of the new school yard bully.

No Jay, Kim has never contacted me. And you will notice she has made NO replies to her post responces neither. I think she is wise to be quiet. But no, I don't have any hard feelings toward her and try to follow her wishes.

I don't know Howard. You have both shown good judgement in the past in my opinion. I don't know the reasons why it was handled in the manner it was, but I'm sure that there was a reason and that it was well thought out. Up until now, I doubt you had reason to question Kim's decisions made here.

Good luck with your new website. I probably won't be joining, but not out of principle, but rather that I already visit too danged many of these places :)

Jay, I can think of one reason for her to post it out in the open. Just using this as an example and not saying cowman would do it. but if Kim contacted them privately and they went along with her wishes well and good. On the other hand if the person gets mad and makes a post back that Kim is being unfair and maybe misrepresents what the message actually said to them it could get like some posts on the buyer seller feedback board, A he said she said back and forth thing. Kim posting the message for everyone to she lets everyone make up there own mind on the subject. Also what she says goes wheather it fair or not so she does'nt have to answer that question.

I have stopped using the picture and the link. I sure didn't mean to start any trouble with what I thought was an innocent fun board. And as far as the electrocution pic goes, we voted on it months ago and the majority thought it was cute and should stay.

I'm not seeing this deep pocket corporate sponsorship? Even on the new yt it uses PHP-BB an open source content management system. Sure, there are ads here, I can get ads on my site too (since my sites have NOTHING to do with old iron I wont link them, just the fact that they exist).

As to litigation, seriously, anyone can sue anyone for anything. Every single thread that mentions any type of field modification, every piece of electical advice, every livestock health recommendation is potential liability.

I really admire Kim for how she runs the site most of the time. I admire CM more for how he has responded. Its been with much more tact and taste than I would have.

Howard: Politicians have been proving this for years, publicity pays, doesn't matter whether it's good or bad.

I remember once a local gas station operator back in my home town, we all called him Boss Hogg. Anyhow Boss changed political parties in mid stream. A local rag, suggested that out in the rural area even the political fences were barbed wire, and further that boss might suffer some under damage jumping these fences. Well, in the next few weeks he got more business, folks who hadn't gone in for years stopped for gas just to give him a hard time. He got the notion I was the one responcible, and was his nose ever out of joint with me. Finally I told him not to be so damn silly, "I made money for you man, I bet your sales were up by 25%." He just grinned, and thanked me.
