I took my JD 219 block in for a line hone to correct a main bearing that had spun in the block. Machine shop tells me that the caps are too far gone. The block bearing surface is not bad just the caps. I see JD lists main caps only. Has any ever bought main caps only, and had them fit? Thanks Stan

You need to center the boring bar off of two of the old caps to line bore it. Also the replacement Deere caps may hame more material than what can be line honed, but depending on what the guy charges you it would make a good finish operation, kind of like boring a block and then using that last few thousands to hone it. So don't be throwing the old caps away.

As long as your doing a line bore anyway, new main caps are just fine. That is how the originals were fitted. Don't just bolt them on as is, as they won't be correct just out of the box.
