I use cenpeco oil in everything. It is more higher price than most oils, but I always have had good luck with it. Also they are a big sponser of NTPA tractor pulls. What brand do most of you people use and why?

I have a 3208 cat in a white that I use 15w-40 shell rotella t in. My daily driver cars I use all synthetic Amsoil 10w-30 that is rated for 25,000 mile oil changes. I run it about 15-20,000 miles between changes and it does really well. I save a lot of time on changing oil even though it is about $4.50 a quart in the 12 quart cases I buy. Also don't have to get rid of as much used oil and the car I use it in will only burn about 1 quart of it in about 15,000 miles. It is a 93 Lincoln Mark 8 with 182,000 miles. I also have a navigator with a 5.4 that I use it in and that will burn a quart every 1500 miles!?? I have a f-350 that I just use super tech 10-30 or 10-40 in from wal mart. Works just fine. Zero radius toro mower gets the good stuff,(amsoil 10w-30) but only gets changed once a year. Hydrostat gets amsoil too. Same oil as the engine but I have kept Mobil one in that because that is what it had from the beginning. Polaris 6x6 gets 10w-40 Amsoil atv oil once a year. Ford tractor (9n) gets any 10w-30 from valvoline or wal mart, depends on the best price! It is pretty healthy and happy on it and only uses a quart a summer of hard brushogging. Farmalls all got kendall 10w40 but it is getting hard to find so dad has been using a lot of that traveler oil from TSC in them and they do great. Hardly ever add oil to a Farmall! Seems like they are always full and clean. I love those tractors. Like I said in a previous post, I think most of the basic oils are all great, some just spend millions on advertising and you pay for it at the store. Motors are either worn out or tight. Motor oil is pretty much motor oil with the exception of the synthetics being able to run much longer without molecular breakdown. You do pay for that in the price though. Later.

How do you keep track of all those separate oils, and where they are used???

What I use now, Exxon; why, its what my petroleum distributor is a dealer for. He stocks other brands but thats his best price. Delivers what I need when he brings me fuel, engine oil, hydraulic fluid, gear oil, grease, etc.

I used to be psychotic about oils. It had to be ..., because it was the 'best', or had some magic too it, or something.

I used Quaker State HDX for a long time b/c that was what my dealer recommeneded. Then I used Shell products. Seemed that the QS engines were always cleaner than the Shell engines when I was into them. Havent been with the Exxon long enough to have to open one up yet.

HDX law-suit in reply to kyhayman, 11-23-2006 09:10:35
I don't know if you remember, but Quaker State had a huge law-suit against them some years back - because of their HDX 10 weight. In our Deere shop, all our diesel oil was either Deere Torq-guard, or Quaker State HDX 10W or 30W. Winter use was straight 10 weight. Seems it was early 80s, there were trucks and tractors blowing up all over the country - all from a bad run of the HDX. They'd reach operating temperature, and oil pressure would go to near zero.
We had to rebuild several engines with spun bearings - caused by it. We stopped using it after that - call it brand "disloyality." Personally, I've been using Rotella ever since. I'm sure it's not the greatest oil - but I've never had a bad batch.

We used to use Mobil in the bulk for our oil changes because it was the best deal from our distributor. Mobil never made the claim that I know of but from personal experience and that of customers it would slow down or stop an engine from using oil. That is a great way to build business. Being in the business for 15 years I have come to the conclusion that it is more important to change oil regular than what brand to use. Since the goverment set standards for oil most brands are made to be just over the standard so there really isn't much difference in brands anymore.
