My 95 Sierra has started blowing the turn signal fuse. I can't find a short, the "blow" is not instant when you put in a new fuse. I noticed some corrosion in the fuse holder where you plug the fuse in. What could I clean that with? I have a trailer light and brake hook-up on it. Anyone have a similar experience or know where to look for the remedy. Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Corrosion produces electrical resistance. Current flow through resistance generates heat. Enough heat conducted from corroded contacts into a fuse element will melt it and a blown fuse results. Can happen when fuseholder connections aren't clean, bright, and tight! Stick in a fuse, turn on the load for a while, then feel of the fuse. It shouldn't be hot (don't burn your fingers).

Thanks! I've already been through the trailer hook-up and the recepticales and all the trailer wiring since I thought it was the trailer causing the problem. That part is clean. Thanks Old and everyone, I'll bet the bulb idea is the culpret. I'll get some new bulbs tomorrow and change them out.

Check all the bulbs. I've seen more then one that when it burned out shorts out and that will cause the fuse to blow and it blows slow not fast when that happens. BTDT and its hard to find. I just did it the easy way and replaced the blubs and was done with it

What old said. I had a piece of solder from the end of a light bulb on my trailer get in the connections and cause a ground. It kept blowing the turn signal fuse just as yours is doing.

Check the Bargeman (or other receptical) for the trailer brake connection for corrosion. It could be a high resistance short in the connector that is causing the fuse to blow.
