Need some help fellas: Can someone give me an educated estimate on what range to expect to pay at auction for the following? (I know that it's a bit of a crap shoot at auctions, depending on crowd, wheather, economy etc. I've seen things sell really cheap and I've seen people get in a bidding war and pay over new price for an item.)

JD 3010D, wide front, synchro range, average tires, straight tin and average to faded paint. Hours not listed. Attached to this tractor is a 2004 Westendorf WL 27 quick tach loader.

Does the 3010D make a good loader tractor? Price ranges expected?

Thanks
DJL

Used to be a 3010D might be down around $4000. Like the 4020 they have risen in price, to be collected and just because a new tractor that does the same work costs more than it used to. With 2/3 the hp of a 4020 the 3010 ought to cost 2/3 but it will cost more than that. I've seen 3010/3020 go for over $7000 and that was 8 or 10 years ago with so many hours the tachometer read 5 yours. First or second time around, nobody would admit.

The rub with buying a tractor at a typical auction is that you don't get to drive it and check out the brakes, drive line, and hydraulic. All you'll get is to visually inspect it and maybe hear it run. There are many things to be tested, though I'm not adamant on a dynomometer test. I still like to see if all the gears work and stay in gear, that the brakes work and that the differential lock works, that it warms up normally, and doesn't overheat engine or transmission. Can't do that on an auction lot.

This is just sort of an educated guess ball park figure type thing, but I would say about $3,000 to $4,000 for the tractor, and double that with the loader on it. That loader will easily mount on a variety of different tractors, so there might actually be more demand for the loader than for the tractor.

A3010 is a good loader tractor. Westendorf loader is a good one too. Price $5000 to $7000 dollars.

For a GOOD 4020 I would try to stay at 8500.00 Or less.
A Good 4010 I would stay at around 6000.00 or less
Maybe 4000.00ish to 5000.00ish? for a good 3010 thats if its GOOD!
are you able to work the machine before you buy it? I know you want be able to dyno it but if you can work the tractor before you buy it could help you. If you can work it, reread some of these post have had on advice people have given me!

A nice 4020 PS is LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything else being built at the time, and WAY nicer than a syncro. Maybe not a smooth as a 15 or 18 speed built much later, but a REALLY nice outfit. Talk about a great loader or chore tractor! I put 9,000 hrs on one grinding feed mainly, but doing anything needed around here, and then moved up to a 4230 PS, then a 4240 PS. Can't beat the cabs on the later ones, otherwise, the 4020 was GREAT!

I'm not much for those in a 3020-4020 as the park system is weak and hard to get out on our hills.

Well, I guess nothing just afraid that they are not as "Bullet Proof" and rugged as a Syncro-shift....I know they are more expensive to repair.....

Well infact tranny prblems, PS, or Synchro of any kind and Reare Diff problems are my biggest fear of any tractor out there!! Just because they are so tough to fix!!!!

What gives you the idea the P.S.'s were not as "bullet proof and rugged" as a synchro tranny?

For heavy tillage, every day, with little shifting, the sychro might have a slight durability advantage, as well as saving a little fuel.

For most other uses, especially loader work, I think the P.S. would win the "durability challenge" hands down.

Well you deffinetly have more expriance than I do. I just have to draw a line in the sand so where as to what I REALLY want and what I don't want. Maybe the PS has fine, but I sort of lik to keep things simple in a syncro shift tranny. Besides I have had more expriance ith a syncro as apposed to PS.....

I am sure PS is fine alot of other tractors use them such as CASE and others an PS surely did not hurt John Deere's reputation but I just rather stick with Syncro..

For what it's worth, that powershift did eat up a few horsepower.
