I will stick with my John Deere, Farmall, Ford and Pontiac. Oh and if they ever fail me, I have several horses that are american made and dont burn rice, they burn corn.

The amount of American workers from engineering, testing, accounting to manufacturing building an American car vs Toyota car isn't even close. On top of all that, the profit all goes overseas.

I"m on my 2nd Toy. First has 280,000 plus and is a field truck due to rust. 2nd only has 208,000 and is a daily driver. Used to haul a tandem axle trailer with 100-120 square bales 75-100 miles once every 3 weeks year round in Northern NY. No real problems.

My Toyota was made in Tenn or Ky by American workers and has at least as much American parts as any GM/Ford/Dodge these days. My "59 Willys is 100% American, but it"s no daily driver.

Limited slip difs and lockers make a big difference. No 4X4 is trully four wheel drive I remember playing in a sand pit with a 1978 blazer when he really got on it climbing a hill only one tire would spin usually the right rear niether of the front would pull because there was a differential in the transfer case. I have a Ford one ton dump for working and a "1979" JEEP Cj-5 for playin, all over North Central Ma. Been doin it for 35 years now.

Didn't the "LOC" function work in the transfer case of your 1978 Blazer????? ?

Bob... Who bought a 1978 Blazer brand new, "back in the day", and knew how to shift the transfer case.

Worst car I ever bought new was an 85 Toyota Cressida which smoked like crazy at 60,000 miles. Sold it and lost my @ss on it. I'll only buy American now, plus I want to support American economy not Asia's.

I think the Toyota's are good trucks, but I don't think the brand likely mattered.

Something with low power, 4 studded winter tires and some weight in the back can go almost anywhere.

I had a 97 Geo Tracker with 4 studded tires on it that was just an absolute beast in the snow and ice because it had enough weight and was low on power.
Now...unlike the guy with the Samauri...it wouldn't tow much at any sort of speed or up hills. A 2k lb load was all it wanted, and that was a struggle.

There is a lot to be said for the right driver also. I've know people who could get stuck where a dog peed on a dirt road.

Nah, but I just got an 05.5 TDI and absolutely love the car. The big ol diesel was just gonna be a bit too much maintenance wise for me, so I went with the affordable, safe, practical, and pretty luxurious for the price Jetta TDI. Are you getting another one? 06 is the last model year for them until mid 08 when they come out with the common rail 2.0 TDI with 140 hp. Your's still has another easy 200,000 miles if not more left in the engine...

Sure, I"m not surprised at the reports of Toyota trucks logging over 300K miles. But honestly, can these little 4x4 rice rovers do any real work?

I've had a Suzuki Samuria for seven years now as a farm vehicle and it's taken alot of abuse with almost no problems. I've used it to pull alot of 6,000-8,000lb loads between farms and it's been alot of places that I wouldn't dream of taking a full size truck. I also have a full size Dodge diesel for my heavy work but I only paid $100 for the Samurai so I use it to keep miles off my expensive truck.

VSC and TRAC do the research on these two items and you will see why the Toyota is the only one to do this. I drive a Toyota double cab and my wife drives a 4Runner.

That Toyota won't do a darn thing that your Rubicon won't do offroad.

I had a toyota and put 97K miles on it before trading it in on GMC. All I did was standard maint. and never had a problem. That is what impressed me.
GMC, had a problem every year. Traded that in for a 04 suburban. Working well, but sensors keep acting up (about one a year).

I imagine that not only does that guy know exactly what he is doing, he has also added weight to that Toyodor. It's got nothing to do with the brand of the truck. I've got an old Ford sitting out behind the shop, it's only 2 wheel drive, but with a set of tire chains and some added ballast I could probably drag that Toyota around.

I'm sure you could pull my toyota around with your Ford Highboy in 2wd, just like I could hook my David Brown up to both of my neighbor's 9ns and pull them around all day long. That being said, I wish I could afford to drive a full size...I'd have a Ford diesel 4 door, but driving 44 miles every day puts that wish to rest.

You can"t beat them. I have one that has 327,000 miles on it and drive it every day. Engine has never been over hauled. It sure could use it now.
