Why don't my inside pictures come out brighter?

Flash is working and my in shop pictures look like I'm in a cave.

Do I need to get closer?

If I do I can't get all in the picture that I want.

Built in flash or hotshoe?

The other things to consider, white balance and distance. The hardest light to shoot under is flourescent. It gives dark nasty shadows unless you correct for it.

If the white balance adjusts I'd set it to 7200 degrees Kelvin and see what happens. That should correct for the blue shift under the lights. Any more and you may need more flash or strobe.

Under exposure isnt a bad thing. Open the image in your photoediting program, and boost the exposure. That will tell you whats happening. If you want, send me a couple of pics that are underexposed as email attachments. I'll dissect the raw info, see what I can do and maybe then we can figure out what to fix on the camera end. I'm leaving my email open.

David

Automatic Cameras sense the overall light of the scene, on some cameras if you place the object you want to feature in the very center of the viewing area (in this case the tractor?) and push the release button halfway down it will adjust based on the light at the object and ignore the background lighting.

You can then push the button all the way down to take the picture.

Check the instructions for your camera to see if your camera has this feature.

Yep it does that.

I have to hold it down till its ready to take the picture and then it does.

range....a small flash only has about a 10'-14' range and then it drops off a lot.

allen...if you have one of those digital cameras, check the settings and see if there's one for indoor pictures. i don't know much about it, my wife and kid were showing me those things the other day. if you have a kid around that's over about five years old, they'll know all about it.

Gary,

Think your shop lights are squezing the shutter down. I shade the light sensor with my other hand when I shoot inside so that the flash can do it's job.

Dunno,

Allan
