Bought an item on ebay last night and used my PayPal account to pay for the silly thing.

This morning I get an email from "Pay Pal, Inc." telling me that my account has been blocked, that I should follow the link and update all my banking info to get the account activated again.

Do I actually look that stupid?

Allan

I received at least three of those last week and I hadn't used paypal for a couple months. Plus a couple claiming to be from epay about something I supposedly was selling, but the date was last June, I've never tried to sell anything on epay, and the return address was at yahoo.

There are those (one per half million) who will bite and give away their identity to these false scammers. I have trained my e-mail program to move them to junk on receipt.

Ebay has become what it is now because people won"t educate themselves before jumping in. Fake second chance offers, "click here to update your info", and all the other scams wouldn"t exist if people stopped falling for them. It dosen"t matter if Google or Joe Blow or anyone else starts a new auction site, the scammers will prey on the un-educated ones. Email just makes it easier to scam, can you imagine sending stamped self addressed envelopes to thousands of potential "victims"? What crook would do that? Not just ebay, I had 500.00 worth of lumber for sale on another site - Some clown wants to send me 3000.00 for if, if I would just forward the extra [by western union of course] to a third party. People fall for that too, the old "if it looks too good to be true" just doesn"t ring a bell with some people. It"s not just tractors either, scammers have hit any number of $$$$$$ items. Ebay works for me, almost 7 years & 1000 fb"s, all but 1 is pos. There are still honest people there.

I bid on a few FleaBay items a couple days ago, didn't get anything bought. Next day like clock work I got an email from someone claiming that I was high bidder on their item and could I please contact them through Fleabay about making payment. I got crap like that from a live auctioneer I'd never attend again.

Actually there two e-mails that you can get from PayPal one is a sham and one is not.
Every now and then I get one one from PayPal that says that someone has tried to access my account and when I go to PayPal.com it will says to change my password for access. If you do this it will send all the info to your e-mail address that is listed on their site. its safe to do that but don't go to one that gives you a website to click on these are the bad guys. Always goto PayPal.com to make any changes in your account.

Yeah, I don't have an account with the "Fifth Third Bank", either, but that doesn't deter the scammers from trying.

I read once the response rate to credit card offers is something like .3%, yet ther card companys get rich.

It wouldn't take much of a response rate for a scammer to get rich, if he sent a million scam emails, and a few folks responded.

If you want to check to see if any message from Ebay is real, look in your "my Ebay" and if it is real it will show up there also.

Most have plastic only for such usage with very low value. I have ask sellers if I could pay with out paypal by looking at the rating I have. All so far said they would. Not just on ebay do crooks work. Inside scams of plastic for TJ maxx stores has caused Visa to deactivate and reissue all plastic from one source. Law and order last night had a electronic reader that can read the black strip on your card in your pocket with in three feet or so of the card. So smoke that.

I would consider you a little off center but not an i.... and thats a compliment. LOL Hey I saw a couple 6 blade fans in my junkyarding the last few days if you decide to go that route. One off a 986 and one off a 1066 I believe. There are two or three different diameters so need to know the length tip to tip and how many bolts in the center. Little 1/4 or 5/16 things aren't they? Anyway let me know if I can help out. Just pulled my 966 into the paint room for a makeover. Wasn't going to but you and Gary keep the pressure on the rest of us poor fools. I should check my 966 to see what fan it has on it. Later Migraine

Yes Please,

Can ya compare to your 966's blade? Mine is held on by 6 3/8" bolts.

I know darned well I need a different fan blade 'cause this old monkey really has to labor. I just work the snot out of it.

Let me know cost and shipping and ye shall be compensated sometime within the next century. :>)

Just a thought. I've got a nephew that got a scholarship to the U of Chicago. Pretty smart kid
he keeps me informed of the computer world. Google has a paypal type of account now. But the
big news is they are seriously looking at starting a Google Bay !!! How would that be. Alot of competition for ebay. There are lots of little auction sites with no money, but Google's got tons of cash. From stuff i've read about ebay
they have some real jokesters running it.

Just got a new 9n dist. cap for 13.09 postage included from ebay.Friend needed one a few weeks ago.We traveled 36 miles round trip and it cost him 20.00.I usually keep points, condenser, and cap around for the front mount dist.Found a supplier thru ebay that sent me a new brush rigging for the starter on my ford pickup for 16.50 postage included.Auto parts place said 40.00.I would have had to make a 50 mile round trip to pick up the part.

Gene,

It's not necessary to CALL anyone.

Simply FORWARD the SCAM email to "spoof@PayPal.com, and you will get a computer-generated reply telling you it is a scam. Then, simply delete it, as what you already knew has been confirmed..

For "scam" emails supposedly coming from ebay, forward to "spoof@ebay.com".

I have gotten them also, when I do I log onto my authentic Paypal site and check and see if my info is up to date, and if it is, as it usually is, I then copy/paste/send the address from the scammer to Paypal as they like to know about it also.

Yeah, RIGHT, PayPal likes to know about it.

I agree with you, I forward all that crap to them, too, but you know darned well 99% of it is never seen by a human. It just goes into their big "cyber garbage disposal".

I wonder how many forwarded "spoof" emails PayPal or ebay get in a day?

Hi Allan;
Despite paying for an anti-spam filter, I still gets loads of these every day.
I just use my "block sender" on the messages on the top toolbar on the screen.
Paypal type scams seem to be more common than ever in the past few months. Maybe they are picking up on people who used Paypal more over Christmas.
Take care in that snow over there.
Cheers David

Think they have some pretty sophisticated gleaning software going on. :>)
