Lets rate these late 60"s 90hp row crops. Not really looking for info, just like the big row crops and wonder what everyone else thinks. I came up with the order I have mostly by what they will bring in my area. #1 JD 4020 #2 Oliver 1850 #3 AC 190 xt #4 IH 806 #5 MM G-900 #6 MF 1100 #7 Case 940 Ford really didnt have a horse in this race, the 8000 was over 100hp, 6000 under 80. Yall can include them if you want to, this isnt a scientific poll.thanks

#1 Of course the IH 806, was the first big tractor i grew up on, with a turbo that thing did everything and was THE horse, then the Oliver 1850, just a darn good, simple tractor that pulls like SOG,then the 4020, used them , just never really liked driving them, didnt lke the power shift. Aint had nuff exp with the others but some swear the Allis would walk circles round all the rest.

what is a case 940 from that era? neighbor had a 190xt allis. bought it fo less than half price of 4020. thing pulled very good and was trouble free for many years. I would get the 190 and smile all the way to the bank.

I expect each and every one of them were about as good as the dealer behind them that sold them. There is only two factors here, THE DEALER and PERSONAL PREFERENCE. I suppose we could give the manufacturer about 5% of the credit.

You picked the wrong Oliver. The 1855 is a closer match for the 4020 then the 1850--my opinion. I looked at all of these and narrowed it down to 4020 and 1855. Chose the 1855, yes it has some potential engine problems but once you get past that it is everything the 4020 is and less expensive. One thing to remember the Deere is not a frame tractor and the Oliver is, this means that replacing the engine even repowering is possible.

Hard to beat a 4020, easy to find parts for (in my area the Agco dealer is a pretty good trip) and nice to operate. I have seen a couple with a 4430/combine 404 swapped and other than a bubble in the hood they looked stock

When dad bought our farm we started out with a Case 900, then moved to a IH 806, can't remember if it had the turbo, just remember how it would dig in and belch the black smoke pulling our 18 ft JD disk (It may have been a couple feet smaller. It had 1 - 2ft "wings" that folded out from the main frame) in heavier soils.

I'd have to go with the 806 for setimental reasons, although now that I'm playing as a hay farmer I have an oliver 1800. I've come to like the brand and for the money compared to the JD's and IH's in the same class you can't beat 'em.
