Hello all. I recently purchased a 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup with the 4.7 V8. On my next oil change I was looking to switch over to synthetic oil. Are there any problems with this? I have heard that there are problems with going to conventional oils after synthetic. Just looking for some input. This truck has 53,000 on it and I want it to go 100,000 more.

won't hurt a thing but your first couple of oil changes my be shorter due to the fact the synthetic will clean most of the garbage out of your engine

I retired an 87 Buick LeSabre at 320,000 miles. I used regular Mobil 10W-30 in the summer and Mobil 1 in the winter. Never had to add any oil with 5000 mile changes. Absolutely no problems switching back and forth. Our mailman just retired his 86 LeSabre at 600,000 miles using regular oil with 3000 mile changes.

I have a 2006 Tundra 4.7L V8 that just passed the 55,000 mile mark. I've used Mobil I 5W30 synthetic since new. Oil change w/new filter every 5,000 miles. Runs like a swiss watch. Read up about sludge problems with Lexus/Toyota engines. Oil passage ways are not large enough to accomodate very much sludge before becoming clogged. Change oil & filter every 5,000 miles. I use Toyota filters. Buy them by the case with coupon from dealer. Cheaper than FRAM.

i switched my 89 gmc over to sythetic and had no problems it ran better everything seemed smoother and oil consuption is down than with regular oil, the only problem i had is that the synthetic cleaned out my engin and oil lines found 2 leaks that were a $20 fix but my truck is almost a collecter also yours should be fine

I've switched to synthetic on several vehicles I've bought and never once had a problem. Mileage at time of purchase ranging from 50k to 178k, no oil usage, no leaks.

Go for it and drive the truck 'til it hits 250k.

Go ahead and switch to synthetic oil. You won"t have any problems. My first time useing synthetic oil , I was just as hesitant as you. It"s been 10 years now. I use nothing but synthetic oil.

I had a 93 F150 that had 90,000 when I bought it and all I put into it was synthetic. No problems.

For something that new there won't be any problems, and 100,000 isn't all that many miles now a days. I've got an 88 F150 that's almost got 200,000 on it running only regular oil and it still doesn't burn any.

Don't think there would be any problems going from synthetic to regular again. The only problem I have ever heard much about with synthetics is that they tend to find leaks that you didn't know existed before. ON a 2003 I wouldn't worry about it.
