50 HP Loader Tractor

After working outside this morning trying to get either of my vintage tractors (Oliver 1550, Ferguson TO-20) operating to start plowing our three foot snowfall, and failing to get either moving (Fergie won"t start, Ollie"s brakes are frozen), I"m finally ready to buy a brand new, or at least new used tractor. I need at least 50 hp, a loader and 4wd. I need it to plow a steep 1/4 mile driveway (with a backblade), brush hog, load manure and generally maintaining my farm and goat dairy. I"ll keep my two old tractors as secondary tractors, for pulling the manure spreader and other work that may not be so hard on them.

My two vintage tractors have served me very well, but I use them hard and daily, and as my farm is constantly growing, I need something more dependable that will require less of my time to maintain, and I"m not a mechanic. I want to keep the cost as low as possible, I don"t need any bells and whistles, it"s just more to maintain, and gear drive is just fine. In my area, the dealers that I have are John Deere, New Holland, Massey Ferguson, Cat, Case International and Kubota. Is it possible to not spend over $20,000 for what I need? I like Deere the best, but it"s most likely out of my price range.

Are there any models that anyone would suggest for new or new used?

Thanks!!!!

chinabestproducts 50 hp jinma 4x4 9500 bucks. How much worse can it be than the rest of the imports. At least they are new and you cut out 5 middle men. JD,Newholland,Kobota are imports also. China needs help anyway because the are sending a man to the moon in a couple of years.
I am typing this on my new American 1000 doller Dell computer with made in china keyboard, mouse and big flatscreem monitor. The surge suppressor and speakers are china made also.Damm china! Is it save to say that they kicked are butts or are they just getting warmed up?

Surprisingly, the Chinese imports can be MUCH worse than the rest of the imports. They're getting a little better, but still "not there yet". The other brands mentioned are all Japanese, and are generally excellent quality. You should be able to get into a 30 hp for around your price. The 4WD makes them perform bigger than their HP. I've got an 18 HP JD, and have been very happy with it.

I bought a new JD 5320 2 years ago with a 541 loader and have been less than impressed. Honestly, had I it all to do over, I would have saved myself $12,000 and bought a Farmtrac 555. It's 50 horses, 4 wd and basically a copy of the Ford 3930....dirt simple, heavy built and a proven design. It'd do everything I'd ever want to do and I would have been money ahead. Neighbors have Kubota's...seem like dependable machines to me. But i think for the money...the Indian built Farmtrac's and Mahindra's (IH copies) are the way to go. And as for this built in the USA crapola...yeah, my Deere was ASSEMBLED in Georgia from parts sourced everywhere including China. 6000 series Deere's are way beyond what I can afford. The 555 4 wd Farmtrac was priced to me with a loader for $22,000 and I am sure that price could be beat.

Kubotas are too expensive. They're nice, but ridiculously expensive. I've got a 2355 MFWD with a 245 loader and 4000 hours, I paid $14,000. WOuldn't trade it for the world. Like I said, most Kubotas are NICE, but i'm sticking with the deeres.

my cent 'n a shilling

I have 2 vintage Farmalls (B and Super C) in the shed but use my Ford-New Holland, a TC-45 with 45 hp and a 7740SL with 86 hp, for the "work". They have served me well. Check out the availability of used New Hollands on their webite. It is very easy to do a search. Get something you like, but, more importantly, get something that you can get parts and service for locally. No sense in running great distances for parts, etc. Been there, done that! It is amazing what a 45 hp tractor with loader and FWD can do. I sure opened the eyes of a bunch of neighbors in plowing snow yesterday with it. In my mind, if you are going to do loader work, then power steering is a must. Tractors with shuttle transmissions are also very nice for loader work. And if you are going to do much PTO work, then independent PTO is a must.

I also vote for Kubota. Used to have all Deere's, had too many problems, switched to Kubota and none of them have ever been back to the dealer.

Depending on time of year ,sales, closeouts and such sometimes Deere will actually be the same or lower priced. It is a very competitive market place with everyone and their brother putting their name on a tractor.

I bought a new Kubota M105X 90 pto hp tractor last Dec. with loader, fwd, power shift, cab/ac and the works, was $15,000 less money than JD 6420. The Kubota has 3 yrs. on engine and trans. I don't farm by color so that is why I went that way. It is an excellent starting tractor, needs to be plugged in at -20 though. Use it for grinding feed and feeding round bales to cattle and so far has been a very fine tractor.

The comparison between a "middle of the line" Kubota and a premium "bells and whistles" 5420, now the 6430 Deere will of course show a dollar difference. Now to be fair the 105X is closest to the econo 6415/6615 Deere. Do the comparison of Deere vs. Kubota on the Deere site as well. As for the 50HP range. The plain vanilla Deere 5105 M4WD is tough to beat per $$$. And if you are bored, the injection pump setting is the only difference between it and the 5205. Plus it's so simple with only basic electrical and hydraulics that terrifiy so many potential owners.

I'd sure take a good, hard look at the Kubota.
