hey larry...this morning i finished cleaning out the carb and put it all back together. old varnished up gas in it had caused the float valve to stick open. replaced the plugs, and after cussing alot and searching all over the place for where i'd set the cover from the distributor (turned out it was right in front of me the whole time) i popped the distributor cap back on. checked and double checked to see if i had the firing order right when i put the plug wires back on. looked around and reveiwed to make sure i had done everything right, turned on the gas valve and checked to see if the float valve was now shutting off so no more gas would leak out and run toward my lit woodstove (like it did yesterday...that was a hairy moment) and decided it was the moment of truth...time to turn the key and hit the starter. y'know how in a couple of my last emails to you i've been confessing about some of the "senior moments" i've been having lately? well i'm not going to go as far as to actually "confess" my latest "brain fart" on this public forum, but i'm gonna let you guess. i'll give you a hint...tried to start the 20...nuthin! over and over she turned...still nuthin'. i says to myself...gotta be spark or fuel, so i started checking for spark first...at the plugs. no spark in the plugs...pull back to the distributor, pop the cap...ok...now it's time for you to make your guess. ok, so i fixed my "error", and decided, well as long as i already have the plug out i might as well see if i have spark at the plug now. gounded it, hit the starter...and just about scared the pee outta myself when after about a quarter turn...off she went on three cylinders!!! for a moment i didn't know what to do..then i came to my senses, turned the key off, replaced the plug, restarted her and just stood there and smiled! been a long time since i heard my little fergie purrin' like a kitten.

oh...long story short? hey larry...got my to 20 runnin'!

Hey Mike, senior moments must be attacking here in the south. Last summer after finishing the installation of the gas tank on my '30 and buttoning up a few loose ends I could not wait to go for a ride. Started right up, past the house, past the barn, through two gates and out to the far end of the pasture. Happy as could be till she quit. The I remembered that they do require gas after tank installation. Was NOT happy trudging uphill both ways to get the gas can. -Lee

lee...ok, since i'm admitting to all my other "brain farts"....i've done that one too. luckily...that last time, (which lets you know i've dowe it more than once)...we were out after firewood and my son and "nuptual queen" had followed me on the four wheeler. that saved me a walk from WAY back in the woods.

by the way...you have those same kind of hills too? (uphill both ways?) you must live close to tenn.

Hey Mike,

I have always heard that these tractos WANT TO RUN - they just have to have a little cooperation from their human helpers. Now I will be the first to admit that my 20 probably got the short end of the stick when it comes to helpers! By the way, you could have at least put a soundtrack link so I could hear it run.

Larry

...and a very good guess it was aaron. y'know...i was gonna ask how many times all you guys have done it...but then i realized i would have only been looking to selfishly ease my own feelings of stupidity by asking you to admit to yours. bad part is...i've made the same mistake before!
