I have a TORO 1132 [B & S Manufacture Date code is Sept 14, 1979] Snowblower. It would run for a time [5 to 20 minutes] and then suddently die. Pull the rope and it would generally start and again run for some random length of time.
Everything checked OK from the fuel standpoint! Got random readings from Magneto wires. So, I installed new magneto and points and condensor over period of 5 or more days and none of these steps would give a spark to new plug! Points set at .020" and I put in new B & S points & condensor. 2 legged coil is set at proper distance from flywheel. Magnets in flywheel are VERY STRONG and in proper location. Key IS NOT sheared or bent. "Kill" wire is new and goes to properly working "On Off" switch AND IS NOT GROUNDED! Wire from coil that goes to points, measured to ground, is from 0.6 to 0.75 Ohms which is spec. per Haynes Small Engine Repair Manual.

Sorta need this blower here in Upstate NY where we've got about 10 feet of snow over the past 12-14 days!! PLUS, I'm retired, no money, quite a bit of time and very very stubborn!! I WILL NOT LET THIS DURN THING BEAT ME!
Need ONLY 1 thing! Ideas on what to do next!?!
Thank You, Deano

If a plunger is used to operate the points ,replace it.A worn plunger will allow oil to get onto the points.

You say "wire that goes from points to coil is .6 to .75 ohms measured to ground". This should only be with the points closed. With the points open the reading should be infinite.

You can get a little electronic box called Omega to get rid of points too for $15 or less. Very reliable units. May need coil tested for breakdown in windings. Small engine shop should have a tester to do that for no charge if they want to sell you parts.

#1) Since it is a "2-legged coil", I would have installed a new coil (ARMATURE as B/S calls it) with a built-in Magnetron EI, eliminating the points altogether.

2.) Are you checking for spark with ALL "kill wires" disconnected from the engine?

3.) Have you tried polishing and removing oil from your points by drawing a piece of clean white cardstock through them several times, followed by a shot of electrical contact cleaner, and then letting them air dry while "open"?
