If you want to read a good story about NOS,get a coppy of EJ Potters book,Michigan Madman. He's the one that had a V8 on a motorcycle,an Allison V12 in a Dodge Dart and pulled 2 Allison powered tractors, then an Allison W24. He played with NOS ONCE. Tried it in a Wisconsin engine. Said after she blew, things got real quiet real quick. He found pieces of it all the way from his mailbox across the road, clear out into the wheat field. He sain "never again".

I would think more about adding propane before I would put NOS on it. Most NOS and propane injection systems are just a nozzle put in the air intake of the engine or a plate under the carb. I would think adding one of the O2 adding products would destroy a low RPM engine like the JD.

Nitrous works just as well on a diesel. Fuel flow will have to be increased or the extra avaliable oxygen will not be used. A R only has two main bearings, not three like the 80/820/830/840. A stock R can break the crank if the operator is dull witted and continiously luggs the engine down and pounding. So I wouldn't recomend NOS on a R. Anyways,in most every class of pulling you will be DQ'd on the spot. With the creeper 1st gear any 80/820/830/840 will pull the 12,000lb class with a stock engine. With some porting, polishing, matching, cam, pump work, air filter conversion and exhaust mods. The engine should carry the "fast" 1st gear in the 12,000lb class.

Never heard of nitrous used in a diesel. As I understand it, nitrous needs to get really hot in order to release the oxygen atoms and I don't think a diesel can cumbust that hot. I'm sure someone else on this board knows more about this. Jim

I've seen a few with propane setups that seem to work pretty well.
