Guess now that winter is about over I'll start looking for a snowblower for a 3600 Ford.I'd like to get some info from those that use them on what to look for and what width would work best. May be using it on a 961 tricycle also.

I have two Ford 3000 gas tractors with 8 speed trans. and live PTO. One has a 6 foot Allied two stage blower on it and the other has a 6 foot Loftness. Both tractors do NOT have loaded tires but have a set of pie weights on them and double ring tire chains. Both tractors also have a ford snow plow on the front as well as front wheel weights. When the snow is deeper than a foot the first pass can require a lot of clutch work but then you can take partial cuts. The blowers make the engines work but do a good job. Neither blower would work on my 860 as the reverse is too fast. I am using an old V style Erskine pullbehind blower on the 860 and it works well. I also use a new style Erskine on a MM and it works great.

If your area to be cleared includes any hills, traction can be an issue. Without 4wd, you will certainly need chains. I had a MF165, with loaded tires and chains-- still had trouble going up my neighbor's hilly driveway. My curent Kubota M5700 with 4wd does better, but it can still spin out too.
A slow reverse gear is also important. If you could use the high range on my MF165, there was not enough snow to make it worthwhile to remove.

I have used a 60" two stage, single auger on a tractor 66" wide and 37 hp. for the last three years. Only this month did I run into drifts where the extra width of the tractor posed a problem, requiring repeated cuts at the snow from a slight angle.

On the other hand the smaller implement proved a good match for the tractor's power band in very heavy cutting in one two-hour session. The rear tire chains helped break up the hard snow in the tall drifts to make it easier to blow.

I have an 80" Allied 2 stage, single auger snowblower that I use with a late model MF 65 diesel, 50 pto hp. It is a perfect combo. The tractor is 75" wide overall. A double auger blower would likely be too heavey for a 3600 or a 961. You definitely want a blower that is slightly wider than your tractor.

You need a two stage blower that is the width of your rear tires outside to outside measurement, usually a 5.5 or 6 foot will catch most utility tractors. If you get a lot of deep snow, then a double auger is the way to go, singles work fine, you can always raise them a foot or so and make a cut and then drop them down to clean a swath that is too deep for one pass. I run a single two stage on a 52 HP tractor, only the deepest drifts cause me to make two passes.
