Loader cylindars

Hey guys I've got a question. What's the best way to leave a front loader sitting on a tractor? Here's what I mean--when you shut the tractor down and walk away, do you extend the front bucket enough so that water will not pool up inside the bucket (to prevent the bucket from rusting)? It seems like most guys do that. But doesn't that leave the cylinders exposed so they would rust? I like to pull the bucket close to the tractor so that the cylinders are covered. What is best?
Thanks for your help,
Marc in Va

My self when I shut the tractor down I then pull the lift lever to let it fall to the ground then pull the bucket lever to let off any pressure in the system. That way for the most part both cylinders are closed but have no pressure on the system

If it's a fairly new loader they have hard chrome plated cylinders that rarely rust if they are exposed. Some Older (60's) loaders had cylinders that would rust really bad if exposed. If it's going to sit for an extended length of time, I'd retract the cylinders and try to cover the bucket so it doesn't collect water or take it off and turn it upside down. Look on Cats, they never seem to get rust on the cylinders. A lot of people put the bucket flat on the ground and if your cylinders creep over time it will end up flat anyway. Dave
