I am going to a auction next weekend and they got a 3 point 7' snow plow up for auction and was wondering if my old 1950 Farmall H will run the snowblower or should I just stick to my scraper blade. I got a saginaw aftermarket hitch on the old girl and just love the hitch.
Any Ideas if this tractor has enough Horsepower.
Thanks,
Ray

We have a 7' IH #80 blower and in deeper snow where the blower works best it will really work a strong running 1066. As the others have said a slow reverse gear is needed and our 656 hydro might run that blower as well as the 1066 because of it's ability to move at extremely slow speeds.

A snow blower without a live pto is an aweful thing.

You _can_ get by without live pto if you have a lot of hp on a narrow blower with a slow reverse gear.

You have the exact opposite in all cases.....

Stick to the scraper. Sorry.

Actually I run a 7 foot 2-stage, single cross auger blower with a 27 hp tractor. However it has 3 reverse gears, low is quite slow, and it has a live pto. In the deep snow I do put some wear on the clutch riding it. In average snows it works great. I have other tractors to put it on if I need a cab or more power for a really bad winter.

So, hp isn't the issue. It is speed & being able to stop & inch through the deep parts.

Like the others said; two much speed and not enough power.

Now, IH had an attachment called the Hydro-Creeper that was engineered for the A. Something similar could be adapted for the H. You would need live hydraulic power from a later SH, 300, 350 or aftermarket. This would feed power to a large hydraulic motor coupled to one of the bull gear pinions. Vehicle speed and direction would be controlled with a hydraulic motoring valve and an adjustable flow divider. The trick to this installation is proper sizing of the hydraulic motor and a provision for easily separating the "creeper".

Unless you like engineering challanges, just get a tractor with a hydro transmission.

Duane is right, it's going to suck with the fast reverse gear. It's out of the question for you.

I don't think you'll be happy. What will happen is you will have too fast of a reverse gear, and without live PTO she'll over feed. They work best with granny reverse or hydrostatic, and even then, you need to stop the tractor occasionally to let it clear out.DW
