I would like to put a Electronic Ignition on my '51 Farmall M .....has any body done this ?
What do you think....I am changing it over to 12v for another reason.....but it seems hard to start, I think it would give it a hotter spark.....Allen said a while back it helped his big tractor, but be sure to get a hotter coil...but he dident say what the coil should be...got any idea.....Don

I have it on a 48 M and a 53 Super M As far as I am concerned it is the only way to go. As soon as I get a little $ ahead I will put it on my H and 1010 JD. They start better run better and some people say it increases the H.P. but I don't think you will be able to tell the differance on H.P.

This very site sells the Pertronix units.

The original units are NOT capable of "driving" a real "HOT" coil and have performance similar to "points" except they (hopefully) don't deteriorate like points with use. (Follow Pertronix's published information as to the lowest primary resistance coil that can be used. Failure to heed this advice will lead to the smoke being let out of the Pertronix unit.)

For those applications where Pertronix "Ignitor II" units are available those units can "drive" a HOT low primary resistance coil.

Or you can use the original units to trigger an MSD box driving a "HOT" coil if you want a REALLY HOT spark.

Since its a side mount disturbutor the points are set at .025 the plugs the same. The .016 the other guy said is for the front mount and hes wrong there since its .015 to be correct
