I've had ringing in my ears since childhood . I am now 55 years old. I had ear infections as a child and always was seen by a doctor and was treated with antibiotics of the day. I can't say whether infections caused the tinnitus or not. I don't notice it much when there is some noise around but when there is little noise or silence the ringing is very noticeable. I have used hearing protection devices for 35 years when using any kind of power tool or machinery.

Tinnitus. Had it long time. Allergy doctor said that was the cause. Think aspirin can cause in some people. Also Pepto bismol. Salicylates or something like that. Buddy got it from hit and miss engine backfire, he said.

It's called tinitus I've had it since 1983. Only bothers me when I sit around and do nothing and
think about it. Google it. I ask my doctor about once a year if any thing can be done about it and
he says no. I think mine was a side effect of high
blood pressure medicine. Good Luck.

I bet you have an impacted eardrum with earwax. I have one ear that bothers from time to time. It starts with an intense ringing and a plugged feeling if its bad. You can buy special softeners but I use hydrogen peroxide. Let it soak for a few minutes then flush with warm water from a 20 CC sringe with the needle removed. You may have to repeat a few times. If you don't want to do it your self you can visit your doctor and pay him a few hundred to do the same thing.

Are you sure that the wife didnt hit you in the side of the head with a frying pan. Just kidding. Do a search on the internet for it and see if any remedies come up.

You mean it will go away? I have to ask the wife from time to time if the noise in my head is bothering her.

Avoid diet sodas. One of the many side affects of Nutrasweet is ringing in the ears.

Mine started when I was 40. It's been several years now. A few things that can make it worse: caffiene, nicotine, aspirin.

See an Eye Ear Nose and Throat doctor soon. They will run an MRI to rule out tumors, etc. but I've just had to learn to live with it.

My ears have rung all the time for over 10 years, and I have kind of gotten used to it. The only time it really bothers me is when I am trying to go to sleep at night and it is all quiet around me.

I did the doctoring and was told that I have Meniere's disease. The ringing is the least of my worries: I no longer have useful hearing in my left ear, but the worst problems are from the periods of vertigo and loss of good balance. The vertigo I sometimes have is incredible. I explain it by asking people to remember the drunkest they have ever been in their life, and multiply the dizzy feeling by 4 or 5 times. Luckily those really bad vertigo episodes don't come very often. I have had a couple of operations to try to help the problems, but they really didn't do much good. I ended up retiring fairly young because of the problems.

The ringing in my ears is worse if I am around loud things. So I try to use earplugs when I am going to run a motor or something else that is loud.

I have often wondered why I got Meniere's disease. The doctors couldn't tell me for sure, since no one is really sure what causes Meniere's. I had some ear infections when I was in my 40's that might have triggered the problems, but that is only a guess.

So I would agree with the suggestion of seeing an ENT doctor. They might be able to help, and at least could rule out things that could really hurt or kill you.

And you may just have to learn to live with it...which isn't easy, but may be your only good choice. Hopefully it will go away. Good luck!

It could be a lot of things. Any recent injury to the ear? Does it come and go or is it constant? Has it affected your balance, and is there pain? Do you get dizzy? Any hearing loss? It could be middle, or inner ear. Sorry to tell you this but it could be a lot of different things. And it could be something as simple as built up ear wax, but usually the main complaint with that is you can't hear or everything is muffled. It could be something somewhat serious as Menieres disease which I doubt due to lack of symptoms. If this persist I would go to the Dr. Monday moring and have it checked. Have you had any recent medication changes? Or started a new medication? Any drainage from ear or an elevated temperature? These are questions the Dr. is going to need to know. Exposed to any loud noises or to loud noise for excessive amount of time? My husband has problems with his right ear due to exposure to the AUTOMATIC TRACTOR RADIO for too many years! As a R.N. I'm suggesting you go to the Dr. and have it checked out in case it is something serious. Or something as simple as an inner ear infection which will require treatment. Good luck! Christine

See a ear, nose & throat doctor they can prescribe something to help you tolorate the noise. I have Tinitus in my right ear so I know what you are talking. A lot of Nam vets have it or hearing loss. And almost all seem to have in shooting hand side. Left handed shooters have in their left ear. Seek help don't delay, then you can sleep good.

My ringing was caused by a magnum rifle/muzzle brake combination. Yes, at first it does make you kind of crazy. I prayed for it to go away. It didn't so I prayed for the strength to deal with it. After 6 months I was able to mostly tune it out. After 18 months I rarely thought twice about it.

I 've had it about 15 years now and there is no way to correct it. I've been to a specialist and and he tpld me I just had to live with it.I have it in both ears and it keeps you from hearing, so I wear hearing aids. Caffeine makes it worse. Its a pain but it's something you have to live with. It's usually caused by loud noises that does damage to the receptor nerves. Bad deal.

Ive had tinitus (sp) "ringing in the ears", since my early 30's, mainly because of not wearing ear plugs working around heavy equipment, coal augers, etc, and I just about have to have some sort of noise, a fan or something running all the time to help it, especially at night.

I've had tinitus for as long as I can remember . I think I got it as a kid in high school after a bad bout of flu . I HAVE to sleep with a fan running or some reasonably loud white noise that's very steady in tone . There's nothing they can do about it . It still drives me nuts sometimes after 30+ years of it . I can't understand people talking in noisy environments sometimes but I don't know if that's the ringing or something else going on . I noticed a couple of years ago that I can't hear cricketts in one of my ears but I don't remember which one right now . No cricketts yet to find out . If it is tinitus it's like any other health problem that can't be seen , people don't understand what you are trying to explain to them unless they've had it them selves . So don't waste your breath trying . Such as when I used to work out of town and had to share a hotel room with someone , trying to explain the fan at night made me get a room for myself at a added cost to me . Then I was known as unsociable . I doubt 37chief has suddenly developed tinitus if he hasn't been sick or had any loud noises hit his ears recently like a gun shot or firecracker . But he best visit his local big money maker ( DR. ) to rule out more serious problems . Take care of the ears !...Randy

broken hairs in your inner ear, punctured ear drums , constant loud noises, infections, pinched nerves in the spine and dead brain cells can be some of the causes of hearing impairment. want to know if it's a pinched nerve? go to a chiropractor that uses the ultrasound device on your back. when he uses it on you, you'll know imediately which nerve it is. other wise get a cat scan see if it leads to some other problem, i've had to deal with them all. it's not fun, and you never really get used to it. but at night leave a fan on, or a tv, or teach your wife how to snore. in other words noise helps take your mind off of it. also try sleeping flat on your back. that will help the spine relax. good luck.
